I loved the first book in this series, What is Hidden.  It was fantastic so I was excited to read this follow up book.  As per usual, I don't really read blurbs and back covers very often- especially by authors of books I've already read.  I like to be surprised.  Sometimes I am REALLY surprised when I start reading.  Like this time.  I wasn't expecting this book to be about Joch, aka The Chameleon.  

Joch isn't the good guy in the previous book.  That alone makes you wonder about reading and liking this book, right?  But, trust me.  You should read it.  Especially if you read What is Hidden and liked it.

Learning more about Joch and his history helped a lot.  It's always good to be reminded that there is always more to a story or person than what meets the eye.  In this story, Joch is on a quest to find his lost love, his first love, his friend.  He is quite single minded and determined.

I have to say that I wasn't really kept guessing until the very last page.  I had it nailed almost from the beginning but it was still a good journey in reading.  My ideas about Joch changed a bit from the first book but I didn't end up loving Joch.  This story, to me, feels like the middle bit of a story.  The characters are being set up and moved around and we are given more pieces to the puzzle but there is still so much more to come.  The ending really left me hanging.  I felt a sense of discontentment for sure.  A little bit of sadness too. Ugh.  I'm looking forward to reading the next book.  When does that come out?!

First off, I love the cover of this book.  I think it's so sweet.  I just had to get that out of the way before I started the review.  :)

"Devon's Choice" is a Christian Fiction Romance.  Devon is a likable character.  She is devoted to her father and has a cute dog named Bubby.  Devon is living a sort of muted acceptance life.  She isn't really living, she is just doing things.  Her boyfriend is a loser but she's okay with that because he gets her out of the house once in awhile and takes her to fancy places.  She doesn't really care about him at all.  Then Brandon shows up and life becomes more about living.

I enjoyed watching Devon transform a bit as she accepts that life might hold more for her than she originally thought.  Brandon is a good man.  A patient man.  Respectful.  I liked him a lot.

I wasn't completely engaged emotionally and some parts felt a bit flat to me but overall this was a good story.  I always appreciate a good, clean romance.

Hearing is something I take for granted, I think.  It's just part of my every day life and most of the time I just assume it's always going to be there.  This book really helped me remember that you should never take for granted the big and little things in life.  Being able to hear is a tremendous gift.

Stella is a singer.  She has big dreams of Broadway.  But one freak accident throws her into a world of silence and her dreams of singing are shattered.  Stella is devastated.  Even though her world has become silent, her thoughts are louder than ever and those thoughts are anything but good.

I love how Hayden enters Stella's life.  He becomes a constant for Stella.  A friend who understands and wants to help her make sense and beauty of her new world of silence.  Hayden teaches Stella that life is still beautiful and worth living.  She is still able to do and experience things, just in a different way.  What a good friend Hayden is.

Stella and Hayden end up helping each other as layers peel away and they learn to trust each other.  I loved the gentle progression of their relationship.  The characters seemed older than 15-16 years old and I had to keep reminding myself that they were younger.

This was a book I really enjoyed reading.  It was sweet and it had a nice flow to it.  I loved the progression and the learning for both Stella and Hayden.

This book is clean.  No swearing, profanity or sexual content.  There are a couple instances of kissing.

Polarity in Motion by Brenda Vicars + Giveaway!

This is an interesting book that encompasses a lot of current issues facing young high school students today- bullying, social media, mental illness and racial discrimination, drugs and relationships.  It will make you stop and think.  I have two teenage daughters and the dangers of social media are a reality.

Polarity is a character you will root for from the beginning.  Her home life is, at times, heartbreaking.  She is bullied at school.  But the climax comes when kids start looking at a nude photo of Polarity on the Internet.  Polarity has no idea where the photo came from or who took it but it's there.  Nobody believes her when she says she has no idea how the photo came to be.  She is accused, pulled from her home and from her school.  It's awful and as a mother I cannot even imagine.  

Polarity's mother is anything but "normal" which makes the situation even more difficult to deal with.  Polarity has a lot responsibility on her shoulders.  I think she was forced to grow up faster than many other kids her age.  But I love that the book points out that really, there is no such thing as normal.  Everyone, everywhere, has things that are hard and everyone struggles at some point or another.

I love Polarity's grandmother.  She is solid and surrounds Polarity with love and safety.  She is perfect.  Polarity wants to uncover the truth of the photo and is working hard to do that.  There are some people who help her out along the way and it was good to see.

I was interested in this book from the beginning.  There were many times I felt like the book was sort of spinning in the same place and I wanted it to more forward more quickly.  A lot of the thoughts and feelings were reiterated many times.  Aside from that I found this to be a compelling read.  

Content:  Obviously, this story is about a nude photo gone viral.  Aside from that there is a couple instances of kissing but no other sexual content.  I cannot remember any swearing or profanity but I forgot to take notes so I'm not 100% sure.  oops.

Brenda Vicars has worked in Texas public education for many years. Her jobs have included teaching, serving as a principal, and directing student support programs. For three years, she also taught college English to prison inmates, and outside of her job, she mentors children of incarcerated parents.

She entered education because she felt called to teach, but her students taught her the biggest lesson: the playing field is not even for all kids. Here we go today with another fabulous Harlequin Heartwarming title- "One Perfect Year".  Just in case I've never said this before, I love Harlequin Heartwarming.  They provide me with clean romance books that focus on relationships, emotions and romance.  I know what I'm going to get when I pick one a book from this line.   I know I won't be surprised by any sexual situations.  That's perfect for me.

If you like friendship turning to romance stories, this book will make you happy.  Shelby and Gage have been friends for a long time.  Of course, Gage has always loved Shelby but Shelby fell in love with his best friend so Gage was never free to act on his feelings for Shelby.  Gage is nothing but a gentleman.  He is very careful with Shelby and her feelings.  He knows that he has to change her spinster mindset though if he's going to win her over.  Luckily, he has a few town friends on his side who help to gently nudge Shelby along.

I know this is the fourth book in the series but I do believe it is a stand alone novel.  I haven't read the first three books in the series but I never felt like I was missing out on anything.  I'd love to go back and read the whole series though.  

This is a sweet story of love and friendship.  I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

I am a sucker for second chance at first love books.  I can't help it.  This is one of those kind of books.  Ellie and Brady are drawn to each other early on.  They hide their relationship because Eatons and Jacksons do not mix and they definitely do not date.  But Ellie and Brady stand against the dumb rules and decided to pursue a relationship.  Until Brady breaks things off and Ellie is left heartbroken.

Enter years of misunderstanding and two not so happy people.

Then circumstance bring them back to the same place at the same time.  Second chances.

I really enjoyed this book.  It was easy reading and kept me in my happy place.  Ellie and Brady are both great characters.  I love how hard Brady tries to show Ellie how much he loves her.  He is a southern gentleman and a determined pursuer.  So romantic.  I love how things come together in the end where secrets are revealed and there is more happy than sad.

This is a clean romance.  There is some kissing.

My thanks to Jennifer Peel, author, for allowing me to read and review her books.  She is a newer author to me and this is the second book I've read by her.  I'm looking forward to reading more by her in the near future.  I love adding new authors to my clean romance favorites list.  :)
