Immersed: A Ripple Effect Romance by Jennifer Griffith + a $25 Giveaway

Immersed New
Immersed by Jennifer Griffith Lisette Pannebaker speaks five languages and has a brilliant business plan—personal language immersion. Clients can hire her to shadow them and speak all day in any language they need to learn for business or travel—whatever. But there’s a major hitch: she’s far too pretty. Clients with less than honorable intentions sign up just have Lisette at their side. Solution? A make-under. Way under. It works like a charm. None of her male clients show her the least bit of interest. Until… Erik. Erik Gunnarsson is charming, kind, and smart—everything she’s ever looked for. Even though he seems to have a secret and she swore she'd never date a client, Lisette is tempted to shed her disguise—even if it means jeopardizing her career.

Immersed is the last book in the Ripple Effect Romance Series and honestly, probably the most amusing of the bunch.  This has been such a fun series to review and I'm so glad I had the chance.

Lisette is a smart, talented girl.  All she wants is to use those smarts and talents to make a career for herself but things aren't going so well.  She is desperate to make it work, not just for her sake but for her mother's as well.  Desperation and determination are what drive Lisette to the whole "make-under" idea.  The whole thing is just so amusing.  It had me smiling practically the whole way through.

I love Erik.  I love how the relationship evolves between Erik and Lisette.  Lisette slowly begins to shed her protective layers (figuratively and literally) as she falls for Erik.

I hope if you haven't already, you will pick up this series.  These are all quick, romantic books, completely clean and completely fun.  I hope there will be more to come from these authors with another series like this.  I have really enjoyed it.

“So…what?”

“Plain and simple: you’re too pretty for this job.”

Lisette rolled her eyes and picked up her brush again, going at the high spots on the wall with vigor. “You’ve been talking to my mom again. Did she finally rub off on you?” Great. Now no one believed in her. Not even Aunt Corky. Just a pretty face.

“No, not in that way. What I’m saying is that your business has merit. It can totally work. But just not with you, the way you are.”

Aunt Corky probably didn’t mean to make Lisette want to cry, but the tears welled in her eyes all the same. This dream had taken every waking hour of the last eighteen months. She’d poured her heart and soul into making it grow, not to mention all the money she’d buried in it—advertising, the office, everything. And her time. Day and night. How entrepreneurs lived past age forty mystified her. She barely had time to keep an eye on her elderly next door neighbors. And when a girl was too busy to serve other people, she was too busy.

Aunt Corky reached over and grabbed Lisette’s hand. “What I’m saying is you need a makeover.”

Lisette raised an eyebrow.

“Don’t raise that eyebrow at me, Z. I’m serious about this.” Aunt Corky folded her arms across her chest. “Not a makeover in the traditional sense. More like a make-under. You know, to make you look less…gorgeous.”

Here it went again, with the appearance factor. Didn’t all the studies say that people who were good-looking had a better chance at success than those who were below average?

“You’re not buying it, I can tell. But think with me. Dark circles under the eyes. A greasy wig. Lines at the mouth. And right about here,” she pointed at her nostril, “a big wart.”

“A wart!”

“Okay, maybe not a wart. That might be over the top. But something that will keep all the pawing maniacs at a distance.” Aunt Corky shrugged and leaned against a dry wall like she’d made her case and the prosecution rested. “Think about it, Z. I mean, you want Immerse to succeed, right? All the years of language skills and business acumen you’ve amassed, they’re going to waste.”

Lisette sighed. Even though she wouldn’t admit it aloud to Aunt Corky, unless something changed at Immerse, things could go south pretty fast. However, she wasn’t convinced it was reason enough to subjugate her dignity and go into daily disguise just to ward off pretenders.

Aunt Corky resumed painting. “Just think about it. Don’t decide now. But if you want to do it, I know somebody. Samantha. A genius with bad makeup. She could absolutely transform you. No one would even recognize you.”

This was crossing over from ridiculous into the absurd.

Second Chances 101: A Ripple Effect Romance by Donna K. Weaver + a $25 Giveaway

Thirty seven year old Francie Davis, a recent widow and empty nester, gets to attend college at last. She’s sure her luck has changed when she also lands a job on campus that will pay her tuition, as administrative assistant to a history professor. When her handsome new boss yells at her on the first day of work, Francie worries she will never be good enough. For Professor Alex Diederik, life is going downhill fast. Not only is his bitter ex-wife trying to poison their only daughter against him, but now his one place of solace—his work environment—is being complicated by his attractive new administrative assistant. She drives home his feelings of failure as a husband and father, and Alex wonders if hiring her was the right thing to do. Francie will have to put aside her hurt and insecurities or risk her dreams, while Alex must look outside himself if he’s to mend the breach with his daughter. And, perhaps, find someone who can help heal his pain.

I thought maybe Francie would get her own story told in this book.  This is a character we met in Lost and Found, the previous book in this series.  I'm glad Francie has her own story.  She isn't anything like what I imagined her to be when I read the other book.  There is so much more personality and depth to her than I first thought.

One thing that sets this book apart from the others is that the characters in this book are older and more experienced in life.  They have experienced many deeper struggles.  They both have grown children.  There is a sense of maturity there.

I love how Francie tends to mother all those around her.  She can't help but take care and look out for other people.  Her compassion makes her a great character.  She has spent years being a strong woman, taking care of almost everything by herself.  I love how there is just no hesitation.  If there is something to be done, she just does it.  Like fixing the roof.  ;)  You just need to read it to find out the fun scene behind that one.

This was a great addition to the Ripple Effect Romance series.  These books are quick and easy to read.  You are guaranteed a happily ever after ending which really makes me happy!

Enjoy the following excerpt!

“Are you for real?”

“I’m not sure what you mean,” Francie said, trying not to be offended. She was used to being complimented on her cooking. Even Greg hadn't been able to find anything wrong with that.

The girl pointed at the sandwich Francie had pulled from the plastic wrapping. “You’re really bringing food from home?”

“I don’t have money for eating out.” Francie hated the flush she could feel creeping up her neck.

“What, you spend all your money on your clothes?”

Francie glanced down at the suit she had bought for her first day. It was only the second time she had worn it. She decided to address the girl's remark the same way she had when Rafe used to get snarky with her.

“I like you.” Francie picked up half of the sandwich. “You remind me of when I was young and rude. What’s your name?” She took a bite of her lunch.

The girl blinked but then giggled. “All right. I deserved that.” She reached out her hand in a very formal gesture. “You can call me Rose.”

Lost and Found: A Ripple Effect Romance by Karey White and a $25 Giveaway

Lost and Found by Karey White Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she's done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it's time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home. Blake feels like he's been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he's on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he's going home, and that's that. But that's before he discovers his flight has been cancelled. When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.

I’m pretty sure I say this every time I review one of these books, but I can’t help it.  I love them.  I love the concept of “the ripple effect” where a character from a previous book has their story told.  In this book it’s Lydia’s turn.  Yeah!

Lydia decided to take the summer and do something for herself; something adventurous and out of her comfort zone.  It took bravery and courage to travel to an unknown city and live by herself for the whole summer.  She was supposed to have adventures and live it up but found she just couldn’t be so bold on her own.  Feeling a bit let down and deflated, she heads to the airport on her way home.

Enter Blake.  (thank goodness)  It was just destiny.  Blake is everything charming.  Right away he sees Lydia, like really sees her.  I love how they morph their plans together and set out on an adventure.  Lydia is helping Blake find something that is seemingly lost but Blake is a kind soul and takes Lydia into consideration at every turn, providing her with her own moments to shine.  That was so sweet.  They are equally so good for each other.  I felt like neither one outshined the other.  Does that make sense?  They both gave as much as they took.

Blake gives Lydia confidence and faith in herself.  He opens her up to new things and allows her to spread her wings and fly.  Lydia gives Blake support and encouragement.  She gives him a safe place to figure things out and feel.

The title is so clever here because it’s more than a lost box that needed found.  It was Lydia’s lost confidence and Blake’s lost priorities.  Together they found the very things they needed.   And love.  They found love.  <sigh>

This was a fun book and a fantastic addition to The Ripple Effect series.  Sweet, clean romance with no content whatsoever to mention.  J  How happy!
