Oh. My. Heart.  It's feeling all the emotions like a roller coaster.  Up and down.  Over and under.  Around and around.  Frustration, anticipation.  Sadness, happiness.  Hope, relief.  The thing about these emotions?  They are BIG.  This book (and this series) is like riding the wave of emotions.  I love books that make me feel.

First, I should say that you absolutely need to read the first book, The Queen with No Name, before you dive into this one.  And if you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for?!?!  It's time.  Seriously.  

This second book really brought out my love for the princess.  She will capture your heart in the first book but she really steps into who she is in this book.  As her power as a woman and a leader settles within her, I could feel her strength growing.  It made me so proud of her.  Even with the growing power she keeps the softness and kindness present as well.  Princess/Queen is such a fantastic balance of all things a strong woman should be.  I love her.  Adore her.  AND!!  She finally shares her name!!  Sigh.  It's perfect.

The story really ramps up in this book.  The first book left me in a state of worry and concern and luckily the second book picks up right where the first left off.  I was worried for a minute that I was going to have to hate Rowan (again) 😂.  (Their angry reunion is awesome.)  As I said before, it was a roller coaster of emotions but I'm happy to say that it all ended in such a satisfying place.  I am still basking in the afterglow of happiness and contentment.  This book is still in my mind and my heart days, weeks after reading it.  And, I've read it twice already.  It's full of intrigue, action, emotion and magic.  I love it so, so much!!  

I have hopes for a book three.  I REALLY want to get a story about Marek and Sasha!!  Or anyone really.  I just want more of this type of book.  🙏🙏🙏

If you follow me at all you know that I LOVE this series.  It really encompasses all the things I love when I pick up a book.  Well, I don't love cliff hangers, but I guess that's what you get in a series.  You can't have it all at once.  It's worth the wait in between because these characters are so familiar to me.  I know them.  I want good things for them.  I NEED to see them safe and happy.  I am clearly emotionally connected to them.

This book is yet another in the ongoing saga of many characters in many places.  They intersect at times and join forces at times but still the danger and political intrigue takes them to various places.  So many terrible things are happening.  The characters struggle and suffer.  It makes my heart hurt.  But there are small victories and growing love that makes it feel happy too.  I really can't say too many specific things because I don't want to give anything away.  Just know that I loved this book.  I started reading it the day I got it because I just couldn't wait.  It was everything I knew it would be and once again left me desperate for more.  

My favorite character is Grayson.  It's honestly hard to pick just one favorite but he's really the one I'm most emotionally attached to which is why I'm SO EXCITED to share with you an interview with Grayson!!  Woot!!

Hello, Grayson. So excited to sit down with you today. I think everyone is anxiously awaiting catching up with you in Royal Rebel. We left you in a very terrible place. Can you tell us how you’re doing? 

I’m fine. And I’m back with Mia, which means I can finally breathe again. And I’m just as determined to rescue her from my family, no matter what my father has done to me.

A lot has happened to you since you left Ryden. How do you think you’ve changed?

I think I gained perspective, and I certainly gained confidence while being away from Ryden and my parents. I’ve learned a lot about myself and the world. I’ve wanted to rebel against my parents for a very long time. But now I’m finally ready to do it. I will not be their pawn anymore.

Mortisian culture is very different from your own. What was the biggest difference for you?

Honestly, everything. The entire atmosphere is completely different. There’s a life and vibrancy in Mortise that doesn’t exist in Ryden. Maybe it never did, or maybe my family just managed to smother it. But everything in Mortise is colorful and alive. It can be overwhelming, and chaotic, and I’m not always comfortable with it. But there is a part of me that enjoys it.

What was your favorite food you tried in Mortise? What was your least favorite?

Some of the breads are nice. I hate fish, though. It tastes wrong, no matter what they do to prepare it. Actually, I think the spices they sometimes use make it worse.

You have developed an unexpected friendship with Imara, and I personally have really enjoyed seeing that play out. What three words would you use to describe her?

Oh fates, Imara is . . . How can I describe someone like Imara in three words? Her presence is larger than life. But if I had to pick three . . . Enthusiastic, kindhearted, and bold.

 What keeps you awake at night?

Fear for those I care about. Mia has always topped that list, but the list keeps growing, which means I’ve had a lot of sleepless nights.

A confrontation is coming between you and your family—specifically your parents. Are you nervous about that?

Yes. Of course. It would be foolish of me not to feel nervous. But I think I’ve known for a long time that this would be my fate. I’m not like them, and a confrontation was inevitable. I don’t know how everything will play out, and my priority right now is Mia’s safety. But that confrontation is coming, and I think a part of me is eager for it. I’m ready to stand up to them. I’m ready for them to be afraid of me.

You recently learned that Tyrell saved Mia’s life, and he’s been her defender while you’ve been in Mortise. More than that, you know he has developed feelings for her. How does all of this make you feel?

I’m grateful that he protected her, but I don’t trust him, and I never will. I can’t. I can’t fully blame him for being drawn to Mia—anyone would be—but from what I’ve seen of Tyrell . . . I just don’t think he’s capable of loving someone.

Mia has admitted that she considers Tyrell a friend. How does that make you feel?

Confused. Maybe a little hurt, as well. Even taking me and my history with Tyrell out of this, I don’t understand how Mia could feel anything but hatred for Tyrell. He abused her. She may have found a way past that, but I never will.

Your father gave Tyrell an order to hurt Mia. Do you really think he could have refused? You’ve been put in terrible situations before. Don’t you have sympathy for him in that situation?

No, I don’t. Because there’s a very big difference between Tyrell and me. Yes, I’ve been forced to do terrible things for my father. Things I will never forgive myself for. But everything I’ve done, I’ve done to keep Mia safe. Tyrell chose to hurt Mia because he wanted to please our father. Period. And that is despicable in every way.

You’ve got some complicated family dynamics. How are you feeling about your brother Liam?

Complicated is a good word for my family, and it definitely applies to Liam. He was the one brother I thought I could trust, and then he betrayed me. He threatened me by threatening Mia’s life—but then I got to Ryden and learned he never sent orders to kill her. He wanted to abduct her. I’m not sure why, and I’m not sure if it even matters. I can say that I’m glad he’s locked up in Mortise, because he is definitely dangerous. But I’m hoping I can talk to him at some point and learn why he’s done what he has.

The last book!!  Should I shout for joy or cry?!  Both.  The answer is both.  I always love when epic stories, spanning multiple books, come to an end.  My heart always longs for knowing endings and wrapping things up.  BUT.  It's also hard to reach the end of such a fun fantasy adventure.  The characters have become friends and it's hard to say goodbye to that.

This story is fast moving and full of crazy stuff.  You would expect that from a conclusion, right?  Everything is coming to an explosive ending!!  Each book has been working it's way to this.  Camellia the insane.  War.  Unlikely alliances.  

Henrik and Clover.  Will they?  Won't they?  Yes?  No?  It's the constant questions throughout the whole entire series.  Their story is basically a roller coaster of ups and downs, separately and together.  My desperate heart was so glad to reach a resolution with them.

This book will tug at your emotions.  This band of friends is among my favorite group of characters because of their quirks and their diversity.  I will miss them.

I'm always, always in for a new book by author Shari Tapscott.  Always.  I know exactly what I'm going to get and it's what I love, so yeah, always in.

What I super love about this particular book is that it has NO CLIFFHANGERS!!  YAY!!  I loved going into the story knowing that I would have resolution even though this is a continuing series.  Yes, there will be other books, but each can stand alone.  My heart loves this.

This story is my type of fantasy.  Give me some light fantasy elements and creatures, but with plenty of human emotion and romance.  That's how I like it and this author is really good at it.  I was invested in this story from the very beginning and that interest held tight the whole way through.  It was so good!  We get a sneak peek at the next book and I'm excited about it!  Yay for a new series from this author!

Wow, okay.  So, this book is the fourth book in this series and really should be read in order.  Even though this story is set in time before the rest of the books, it will have spoilers and trust me when I say you don't want that.  Nope, better to read this series in order and be spoiler free.

I took me a quick minute to remember what this book was.  I didn't realize (or remember) that this book was set back, back, back in time, before the other books in this series.  I was a bit confused at first, thinking I had missed something.  Only one character name was etched into my memory (Ramass) but it all came back to me quickly. 

This is the story that started it all.  Good versus evil, light versus darkness.  There was literally a battle through the whole book.  This author is so good at crafting characters who are complex and flawed but have such a gravitational pull to them.  I literally couldn't look away.  I became invested in the story quickly.  It is on the darker side.  There is heartbreak, pain and devastation throughout but there is also a tiny thread of hope, friendship and strength.  Eiryss is definitely a strong woman who keeps getting thrown down (stomped on, lied to, beaten) but keeps getting up.  She just doesn't ever give up.  How can you not admire that?

I'll admit that here, at the end, I am a bit sad.  This part of the tale isn't happy.  Engaging, interesting, yes.  Happy, no.  Happy comes later in the story but wow, what a journey.  I've been reading books by author Amber Argyle for a long time because she is so good at this dark fantasy type of book.  It's different from most things I read and I really like that.

Book three!  The final installment!  This has been such an interesting series, unique to me in it's plot and setting.  I really like changing up what I'm reading to keep things fresh and books by this author always do that for me.  I'm not normally a fantasy reader but I make an exception for this author.

This book was long.  And not very happy.  There were a lot of bad things happening with lots of different characters as the story marched toward that very climactic ending.  I think I had a harder time with the violence and struggle because of where I am personally in this crazy year.  I find myself longing for happy escapes instead of turmoil and fighting.  Because of this and by no fault of the author, I had a harder time reading this book.  

I did love how the author surprised me with things in this book.  It didn't go where I thought it might go originally and I like when that happens.  I also really enjoyed Larkin's personal development from the beginning of this series to the end.  I also loved the relationship between Larkin and Denan. 💙

This series is one you must read in order.  There is no way you will have a handle on all the characters and the plot if you don't.

Content:  high violence (descriptive), killing, death.  Innuendo and intimate relations between a married couple with no real descriptions, but you know it happens.

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for the beginning of this new series by Shari Tapscott.  This is the what I've been waiting for!  These adventure/romance books with a touch of the magical and fantasy are so good and I think this author excels in this genre.  (I actually love her books in all genres, but this might be my favorite)

There are definitely secrets swirling around in this book.  Intrigue and danger are everywhere.  Rhys is a bit of a mystery but his story is slowly unfolding and I really like it where it is going.  Amalia is endearing and so easy to like.  I love her sense of adventure and the loyalty she has to her family and her role as princess.  Rhys and Amalia together are yummy.  Too bad I have to wait for the next book.  I'd sure like to read it right now!

The Timeless Romance collection is taking a jump into the magical with this new collection.  These novella length stories are written by different authors but have one common element- Midsummer Night and a touch of the mystical and magical.

Honestly, fantasy/magic isn't my go-to genre so this book overall wasn't my favorite but I still enjoyed the stories here.  I think my overall feeling with most of these novellas was that I wanted more.  More time to develop feelings for the characters, more meat to the stories themselves.  I think I felt that the most with The Isle of Rose.  I really wanted more of that story!  All the elements of attraction, mystery, light suspense were there and because I know this author, I know an extended version of this book would be incredible.

Amber Argyle's story is set as a backstory for a character in her Forbidden Forest series which I have read (and really enjoyed!) so it was a treat for me to delve back into that world for a bit.  I know others have said that this novella was harder to understand having not read the other books in the series and I can see that but for me it was awesome.

The great thing about these Timeless Anthologies is that you get a taste of many authors.  Sometimes new authors pop up- in this collection for me it was Luisa Perkins- which is fun!  I love variety.

The Piper Prince is the second book in the Forbidden Forest series.  You should definitely read these books in order.  It took me a quick minute to remember exactly where the last book left off but as I read, things started coming back to me and I was once again sucked into Larkin's world.

Amber Argyle is excellent at creating characters that are clearly defined, layered and interesting.  This story has a constant forward momentum that kept me on the edge of my seat and anxious.  Larkin's world is in constant turmoil with different groups of people warring against each other.  It's a violent world, and Larkin, Denan and company are always on the move and always fighting.  Secrets are unraveling slowly but surely.  I was fully invested in the story, these characters and everything that was happening.  What a fantastic adventure!  I can't wait for the next book because as per usual with this author, I am left in a place where there isn't much resolution.  I really want the rest of the story!

 Many people have a place they love to go where imagination runs wild and reality is forgotten, the Fablehaven universe is that place for me, I’m so glad Dragowatch continues the adventure.  This is a middle grade fantasy adventure series.

Seth is back along with his humor; his interactions with other characters are pure entertainment. Kendra helps balance Seth with her thoughtful nature and if I had a journey through the Bewilderness I’d pick Kendra every time. Thank goodness for the somber knight and his trusty ride! Teamwork is on full display as a group of friends work together to solve mysteries and win a contest with the world at stake.

At this point I feel like I’m part of the family. As with the other Fablehaven adventures, Wrath of the Dragon King is well written and even though I’m not a “young” reader I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone that can read… lots of fun.

This book was exactly what I needed to read even though I didn't know it.  When Amber Argyle says she has a new book coming out, I'm the girl in the front of the line with my hand raised, jumping up and down saying, "pick me, pick me!"  I think what draws me to her books is the way she creates original and fascinating places and people that just pull me right in.  Her books are outside my normal, go to genre but I really love that.  Fantasy isn't usually my favorite, but when it comes to Amber Argyle, it is.  It gives me a well needed breath of fresh air. 

I was intrigued by this book from the very first chapters.  It perked up my imagination and my curiosity. I just had to know what was going to happen.  That feeling continued throughout the whole book.  I love when a book can engage me so entirely.  And now, even days later as I write this, I am still thinking about this book.  I want more.  I want the next book now!  

This book has it all- scary creatures, strong characters, magical powers, vivid and varying places and the ever needed theme of good versus evil.  There is love and betrayal, light and darkness.  It was an incredibly fun adventure and I loved every single minute of it.

I am really loving this series!  For some reason I was thinking that this was the last book, but no.  Again I am left with my heart hanging because the ending?  Ugh!!

Absolutely nothing comes easy for Kalinda.  Her whole life has been one struggle after another.  It seems like for Kalinda, along with her little band of friends, there is no break, no chance to relax and no time to breathe.  Which is equally awesome and exhausting as a reader as well.  The pacing is fast, things are always happening and I love that but by the end of the book I feel like I have to suck in big breath and relax myself!

Because this is book three, these characters are like old friends to me.  I am invested in them and I care about them.  I'm ready to see some conclusion and resolution for them.  I hope the next book is the last book.  😊  And I wish I had it right now.

This is a series that must be read in order.  It is on Kindle Unlimited if you have that!

It's finally here!!  The long awaited sequel series to Fablehaven is FINALLY here.  Fablehaven fans rejoice!!  :)  ha.  That would be my family.  When I told them this book was coming out and I had been offered a chance to review it they were so excited.  I told them I wasn't sure I would review and they almost lynched me.  I was just teasing, of course, because why would I pass up a chance to get my hands on Dragonwatch?!  One of the best things about this series is that it appeals to all audiences- young and old.  It's a fabulous series to read aloud with your kids or grandkids, and it's great for younger readers and adults alike.  I love that.

If you haven't read the Fablehaven series, I would highly recommend you start there.  BUT, I don't think you HAVE to.  It would just help so, so much.  You will have a better understanding of the characters, the past events that have led up to this book, and why things are happening.

This book picks up just as the last book left off.  All your old favorite characters are here with Kendra and Seth leading the way.  You get to meet some new friends as well.  This book is a fantasy adventure so there are so many creatures with special abilities, magical lands and lots of amusing and dangerous situations.  (I would sure love to have a nipsie pledging allegiance to me!)

And while some things are resolved with this new conflict with the dragons, there are plenty of things left wide open for the next book.  And so the wait begins again. . .

This really is a fantasy infused Cinderella.  It's full of magic which puts a fun spin on the old Cinderella classic that we all know and love.  

Even though this book started out really slow for me, it ended at a good pace.  The last half of the book the adventure picked up and things started moving.  Up until then I felt like the story was spinning in about the same place with very little forward movement.

Ashelandra is an interesting character.  She passion and conviction and a wee spark of mischief.  Even though plenty of awful things happen to her, Ash finds ways to keep positive and happy.  She puts her focus on what she is trying to accomplish long term and she sticks with it.  In the beginning, Ashelandra is impulsive and doesn't give much thought to those around her but by the end she had learned to think more about her decisions and how they might effect those close to her.

The prince is, of course, dashing, heroic and utterly smitten with Ashelandra.  I really liked him.  I loved the adventure to the magical fantasy world that had been secreted away.  

The ending was gratifying and left me feeling satisfied and happy.  So, overall I'd say I enjoyed this book.  The last part much better than the first part.

WhipEye by Geoffrey Saign

WhipEye is a MG fantasy adventure book with some mystery and magic thrown in as well.  I'm not sure how MG this book actually is, it felt more YA with MG kids in it.

Charlie is a parrot, a talking parrot with a big problem and he needs help.  Sam and Jake are pulled in to help Charlie in a quest to save two worlds from the evil Magnar who has been holding Charlie captive for many years.  There are lots of monster like creatures who chase after Samantha and Jake.

One thing I think the author did a good job of was describing scenes so that I could visualize them in my head.  I had clear pictures of places and things that were happening.

I'm not sure this book was up to par with the many other MG books I've read through major publishing companies, but it was okay.  The writing was a bit rough around the edges- the flow, the dialogue.  I didn't find myself personally connecting to the characters but it was a fun story and if you enjoy fantasy/magic/adventure type books you may really enjoy this one.  It just wasn't a great fit for me.

Guardian's Nightmare by Darren Simon

Some people have magical swords or amulets that give them special powers.  Some people have magic carpets or mystical creatures.  But Charlee Smelton has a magical, wonderous bike.  It is old and it is ugly but you better not judge this bike by it's cover.  "Bike" as it is so lovingly refered to, is something to behold.  It responds to Charlee's words and thoughts.  It even thinks for itself!  Ninja moves?  Yeah, this bike has them.  Wings that fly?  Yup, got those too.  Faster than a speeding bullet and able to save anyone in danger?  Yes, well, unless it gets knocked unconcious.  Bike has healing powers and can do just about anything.  That's some kind of bike, right?

This is a Middle Grade book with a main character who is thirteen years old.  There were times that Charlee sounded thirteen but most of the time I felt her thoughts and actions were inconsistent for a 13 year old.  I have a twelve year old so I guess that's what I compare it to.  The last third of the book was a bit much with things just happening and people appearing and surprise, something else.  After the fact, some of the things were explained but I think there were one too many surprise things happening at once.  The way it played out left me rolling my eyes and questioning the validity of the things that were going on.

Overall this is a innocent enough story.  The main character learns some good lessons and of course, there is Bike, who basically steals the show.  Everyone who reads this book will want a "Bike".  This was an okay read for me, I wish the ending would have been different.  There is some profanity (using God or Jesus as an exclamation) but otherwise this is a clean book with no swearing or sexual content.

Janitors: Strike of the Sweepers by Tyler Whitesides

The stakes have never been higher, and you've never seen squeegees do this before! It is a wild and slightly unsanitary ride as Spencer, Daisy, and the rebels find themselves chased by Mr Clean's new and terrifying breed of toxite—the Sweepers. Time is short. With the fable Manualis Custodem in hand, Spencer must figure out how to summon the founding witches if they ever hope to mop up and save education.

I am always excited to see a new Janitors book come out.  This is the fourth book in the series and it isn't over yet!   Tyler Whitesides writes with imagination and creativity.  Every book I say to myself, "how does he come up with this stuff?!"

These are middle grade books and some of the best I've ever come across.  If you have a reluctant reader, this might be a good series to perk their interest.  I actually think this series would be awesome read aloud.  If my kids were younger, this is the one I'd be reading them.

In this book, my favorite things were the squeegees that when rubbed on glass create a portal to get from one place to another.  I can think of a lot of people I would love to squeegee with!  To be able to travel home to see my parents with the swipe of a squeegee would be awesome!!  The other thing I loved was the Thingamajunk.  I think I want one of those.

My favorite quote is found on page 92.  "Because victory will come to those who fight for what is right.  It won't come without its fair share of pain and suffering.  No victory comes without sacrifice.  But it will come.  We just have to stay the course."

Double Star by Cindy Saunders

Today I have another book from Clean Teen Publishing.  I'm a fan and promoter of Clean Teen Publishing.  Why?  Because they offer a content guide to their readers on every book they publish.  If you want a head's up on what's in a book before you read it, and you want a great selection of books, you should head over to the Clean Teen Publishing website and check them out.  They give a head's up on violence, language, sex, and alcohol and drugs.  The quick view content picture looks like this for "Double Star".

I actually think their rating on language is too low as they only mention some mild swearing (H, D) and there was actually a few instances of more than that (S, B, A).  There is also a couple instances of profanity (using God or Jesus as an exclamation).  Just FYI.

Double Star started out really slow for me.  Fortunately it picked up as the story went on and I found myself enjoying it more and more.  By the end, I was into it enough that I was miffed at how it abruptly ended.

As far as characters go, my favorites were the ones that actually had less face time in the book.  I loved Grandma and I wish she would have been a bigger part of things.  I loved the people Ally and Liam's group of friends encounter as they begin their journey.  The little burned boy, the boy who speaks only through pictures... And Caleb.  Those were my favorite characters.

There were some editing problems- scenes that jump and such.  For example in one part, Liam walks into the kitchen where everyone is eating breakfast.  Someone asks him about his sword and then in the next sentence/paragraph it says, "They stood in the front yard."  Huh?  How did they get there?  It was some small things like that that had me going back to double read.  Sometimes the story just felt choppy.

I didn't love this book.  For me it was just okay and I liked some parts better than others.  I really liked the pictures at the end of the book though.  It really helped me get a better idea of how everyone should have looked and it was cool to see the shifters and their animal counterpart.
