Can opposites really attract?

A robbery followed by the discovery of a forgery at a respected art gallery thrusts Chelsea Owens into the center of an investigation headed by Detective Sam Eldridge. The instant chemistry between the high-spirited aspiring curator and the tall, dark, brooding cop is a classic case of opposites attract.

Complications arise when Chelsea uncovers a connection to an unsolved art heist. Teaming up with Sam to find the stolen paintings ignites feelings that could lead to lasting love. But Sam isn't ready to move beyond the tragedy in his past, no matter how promising his future with Chelsea could be…

GoodreadsAmazonBarnes & NobleHarlequiniTunesIndigo

I always love when a book cover is a perfect representation of the story inside.  This one is exactly that!  The characters and the background setting are perfectly matched to this story.  :)

Chelsea is a hopeful, happy personality.  She seemed liked someone I would like to know in "real life".  In contrast, Sam is more reserved and careful.  They really are opposites in many ways but balance each other out perfectly.

Kate James is excellent at writing gentle, sweet romances.  Her books are so easy to settle into.  This particular story brought in an element of mystery with an unsolved crime and some strange things happening.  I enjoyed that aspect of it even though the story kept a pretty sedate pace.  There wasn't anything heart pounding or stomach clenching here, but the story maintained a slow and steady growth between the characters and the plot.

I really loved the K-9 series by Kate James.  I think those were my favorites so if you've never read anything by this author, start there.  But honestly, you cannot go wrong picking up any book by Kate James.  Especially if you love a good, sweet, clean romance.

GoodreadsAmazonBarnes & NobleHarlequiniTunesIndigo

Kate James is one of my favorite Harlequin Heartwarming authors and I love her K-9 Unit series.  The dogs in these books are such a fantastic addition to the stories.  This is the fourth book in the series but it can stand alone.

In this book, Shannon is a new K-9 unit handler.  She and her dog specialize in search and rescue and she gets called in to find a missing boy who had been camping with his father.  Shannon lost her brother in almost the exact same way years before which is why she chose this profession.  Shannon desperately wants to find Sawyer's son and the two form a bond pretty quickly.

I really liked Shannon.  She was tough but still feminine and tenderhearted.  Sawyer was maybe not my favorite guy, I was a bit bothered by his back and forth commitment to Shannon but there was no denying his love and devotion to his son.

The mystery kept me interested and wondering all the way through the book.  There were twists I didn't see coming and that always makes a book more fun.

Can his safe haven be enough for her?

Emma Meadows never imagined that sticking to her principles against an act of corruption by a New York senator would cost her her job as VP of communications. Heartbroken, she retreats to her cottage in the Adirondacks to lick her wounds and, in the process, rescues an injured dog that only Josh Whitmore can save.

The veterinarian works diligently to bring dog and woman back to full fighting form, until allegations against the senator become more serious. Seeing Emma's reaction to the increasing pressure, Josh realizes that inevitably she'll find a way back to the top…and he'll likely lose her for good.

I always look forward to books by Kate James.  Her K-9 Trilogy was one of my favorites.  And there is no denying that I love books in the Harlequin Heartwarming Line.  These two are a perfect combination.

Emma is a kind hearted character.  Her love for animals is endearing and ultimately what draws Josh to her.  Emma and Josh are so good together.  I loved the moments when they were close and helping each other.  Josh is an excellent supporter of Emma- strong and capable.  I just really liked them both.  I'm also coming to realize that with Kate James, there is probably going to be a dog or two involved in the story as well!

It's always fun to have a bit of light suspense thrown in a romance.  In this case, it helped things move along more quickly.  I wasn't a fan of how the information regarding the conflict came about- a couple times I felt like I was in the middle of an information dump.  I will admit to skimming through some of that.  I wish it would have been woven into the story in a less dumpy way.  Other than that, I really enjoyed this book just as I suspected I would.

Content:  mild swearing, profanity (using God, Lord as exclamations)

Is she part of the solution…or the problem?

It could be a terrorist threat. Or is it some other sinister plot? An unprecedented rash of security breaches at San Diego's international airport is putting passengers at risk and bringing the competence of the airport's chief of security, Ariana Atkins, into question. With explosives the weapon of choice, police K-9 unit captain Logan O'Connor and his bomb detection dog, Boomer, might be Ariana's best, if not only, line of defense. Logan is certain his belief in Ariana, and his growing love for her, aren't misplaced…but it wouldn't be the first time he's misjudged someone's intentions.

I am really loving this K-9 series by Kate James.  I've read every one so far and this book is a fantastic addition.  I loved how each book has a different setting- even though all the books are about K-9 handlers in the same police unit.  This book is mostly in an airport setting and I really loved it.  I don't think I've ever read a book quite like this and it was fun.

The suspense had me constantly pushing forward to read this book.  The pacing was awesome.  It had those full of suspense moments but a few downtime moments as well where I got to feel the growing relationship between Ariana and Logan.

Kate James is easily one of my favorites with Harlequin Heartwarming.  This book brings the end of this K-9 trilogy which is kind of sad, but I'm sure looking forward to what comes next!

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the Harlequin Heartwarming line?  Perhaps once or twice maybe?  Yeah, I'm a fan of both Harlequin Heartwarming and Kate James.  I'm really enjoying this K-9 series.  "When Love Matters Most" is the second book in this trilogy and it was another hit for me.

I really fell in love with Rick.  He turned the heartbreaking start to his life into something beautiful.  Rick is a strong protector.  His choices are influenced by his own past and it leads him to be compassionate and make a difference in the lives of those who really need him.  I love the addition of the K-9 dogs into the story.  It brings an added element of loyalty and bonding and helps these characters seem more human.

Madison starts the book in one place, thinking she has things figured out, but ends in another place realizing that perhaps there is more than black or white to each story.  It was a good remind to me to remember that there is usually more to a story than what I first hear.  It's easy to get wrapped up in my own little world and forget how many people there are out there who could use some kindness and help.

Overall, this was a good book.  I enjoyed it from beginning to end.  It was good to get to know Rick and Madison and also to see the characters from the previous book in this series.  I'm looking forward to the next book!

Have I ever mentioned before that I love the Harlequin Heartwarming line?  Ha!  Only every single time I read a book from this line, right?  Well, it's worth mentioning again.  If you love good, clean romances that focus on relationships and growing love, then Harlequin Heartwarming is the perfect place for you.  It's the perfect place for me.  I like my romances clean.  :)

There were so many different things going on in this book with the characters.  Some were separate, some were together.  I love how everything sort of melded together and connected.

Cal is a search and rescue officer with a K-9 companion.  He works hard and is very good at what he does.  The book starts off with a daring and heart wrenching rescue of a little girl trapped in the rubble of an earthquake.  Cal has a big hero's heart but it is often closed off because of hurts and frustrations from his past.  Saving that one little girls sets off a chain of events that lead Cal to bigger and better things.

Jessica tries to stay impersonal but she just cannot.  Some people just pull at your heartstrings no matter how hard you try to close yourself off.  Jessica is a helper by nature and so helping Kayla and then Cal happens whether Jessica likes it or not.  Jessica has some big demons to fight but she has been running instead of fighting.  The time comes when she has to either fight or lose everything.

This was a great book to settle in with.  I loved the characters and I loved the struggle.  The chemistry was there between Jessica and Cal- they knew it and I knew it too.  The forward progression of this book was good and the characters were solid.  I read through this book quickly because I just didn't want to put it down.  Yay for a good, clean romance!

Kate James spent eight years of her childhood living in foreign countries as her professional parents travelled on business. She lived in four countries and spoke five languages before settling down in Canada again to attend university. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering, she held a variety of positions in the field of real estate development and operations, and ran three substantial organizations. While her writing during this period was mostly business related, including presentations and speeches she delivered both nationally and internationally, her passion is and always has been fiction.

Kate's business and personal experiences enable her to write fiction with a deep, often first-hand knowledge of what she is writing about. This approach makes Kate's stories richer and more vivid.

Kate’s goal is to entertain you with well-written, engaging stories, set in intriguing places and with strong, likeable characters. “I hope my stories bring you pleasure and entertain you. Nothing pleases me more than receiving feedback from people who have chosen to spend their valuable leisure time with one of my books,” notes Kate.

Kate married her husband, Ken, in an elegant, ocean-front wedding on a tropical island. When they are not traveling, they split their time between their properties in southern and central Ontario in Canada.

The Truth About Hope
by Kate James
Adult Contemporary Romance
May 1st 2015 by Harlequin Heartwarming

Who is Hope Wilson?

Is she the girl her former hometown thinks she is? Or the girl Luke Carter once loved—and maybe still does?

When Hope returns to Canyon Creek, Texas, to honor her
father’s last wishes, there’s only one person on her mind: her high school sweetheart, Luke. The boy she lied to when she had to leave Canyon Creek as a teen, finding it easier to hide what she really felt than deal with the grief of loss. Her father’s fortune could make a big difference to Canyon Creek—but Hope finds that the townspeople have a long memory about his misdeeds. With a plan to make amends on his behalf, Hope learns the truth about herself. And the truth about love.

Amazon - Barnes & Noble - Harlequin - Kobo

I've been reading a lot of books from the Harlequin Heartwarming line lately and I must say that it's been just lovely.  :)  The Heartwarming line is in my safe zone and I know when I pick one of these books up there will be nothing surprising in the way of content.

Here is the classic second chance at first love story.  Hope and Luke had a young love but then Hope's mother died and she was forced to leave the state to live with a father she has never known.  Her father left when she was just two years old and he not only left a wife and daughter behind but a town full of angry people.  Hope is so full of grief over leaving behind everyone and everything that she loves that she deals with things very poorly.  She leaves Luke with no idea what's going on and she doesn't speak to him again even when he calls, emails and writes her letters.

That's a lot of unresolved baggage to work through when Hope and Luke finally do reconnect a decade later.  Hope has the bumpiest of roads ahead of her and smoothing things over with her friends, the town and especially Luke is a huge challenge.

I enjoyed following Hope through her life events.  I really got a good sense of who Hope was and why she did what she did.  The romance is more a blip at the beginning and a blip at the end with Hope's journey in between.  Hope is a strong girl.  She's been through a lot and has gained a lot of valuable experience.  I admired her courage to repeatedly face hard things and not give up.  Hope has determination and grit.

This was a good book, so easy to settle in with.  The characters were all so likable.  Yay for another sweet, clean romance!
