Falling Like Snowflakes ( A Summer Harbor Novel) by Denise Hunter

When the Christmas season finds Eden in Summer Harbor, Maine, she's on the run from trouble. Romance is the last thing on her mind.

Riding in a bus in the thickly falling snow, Eden Davis wonders how it ever came to this--fleeing under cover of night with young Micah sleeping fitfully in the seat beside her. When a winter storm strands them in Summer Harbor, Maine, Eden wonders if what might have been the end could be a new beginning.

Beau Callahan is a habitual problem-solver. He's recently left his job with the sheriff's department to take over the family Christmas tree farm to save it from insolvency. But he's flummoxed. During the busiest season of the year, he's shorthanded. Then Eden shows up looking for work, and Beau believes he's been rescued. Competent, smart, and beautiful, Eden's also guarded and quiet. He soon figures out she comes with a boatload of secrets. But Beau can't seem to help himself from falling for her.

As Christmas Eve approaches, Beau discovers he'll do anything to keep Eden safe. But who's going to protect his heart from a woman who can't seem to trust again?

Denise Hunter is one of my favorite Christian Fiction authors.  I'm always on the lookout for the next new book from her.  I've come to know exactly what I'm going to get from a Denise Hunter book and I am never disappointed.

Eden is on the run.  We get bits and pieces of her story as things go along- in flashbacks mostly.  Meanwhile Eden is trying to find work, hide her secrets and keep her son safe.  It's a big burden to carry.  Eden is a strong woman, afraid of the danger she's in, but not afraid to do what it takes to keep her son and herself safe.  Eden doesn't trust though, understandably, which makes it really hard for the people who are trying to help and love her.

I liked Beau from the very beginning.  He is protective and strong.  He works hard and loves his family.  He is everything a male hero lead should be.  Beau is also a patient man and he works hard to help Eden, even when he doesn't understand.

This book was so easy to settle into.  I read through it quickly and it ended before I was ready.  I loved it and I cannot wait to see what comes next for the Callahan brothers!  Today is release day for "Falling Like Snowflakes" so go pick up your copy today!

This is a clean romance.  Christian Fiction.  No swearing or sexual content.  There is some mild violence.  My thanks to the publisher, Thomas Nelson, for providing a copy of this book for review.

Janitors: Heroes of the Dustbin by Tyler Whitesides

Spencer knew that from the moment the Founding Witches had returned, the Rebel Janitors had begun disappearing. So many schools were defenseless now, the students' minds rotting from Toxite breath while the janitors vanished without a trace. Then it became personal.

Although their enemies are powerful, their allies few, Spencer and his ream of Rebels are not giving up! But what chance do a handful of kids and one rescued janitor have against the combined evil of the Founding Witches and the Sweepers? Can the Rebels close the source of all Glop and stop the Toxites once and for all—or is the world doomed to fall under the control of the sinister Bureau of Educational Maintenance? This explosive series finale is a griping ride through conflicted loyalties and daring escapes, unexpected alliances and betrayals, and an ending you'll never forget!

 * GoodreadsAmazon *

I'm going to start out by saying that I love this series.  If you are looking for a book with imagination oozing from it's pages, this is where you go.  This Janitors series is packed with fun, adventure and like I said, imagination.  You will never look at cleaning supplies the same way again.

I wish this series had been out when my son was young.  He would have loved this book being read aloud to him.  I would have loved that too.  This book is perfect for reading aloud to younger children and perfect for those tricky middle grade readers.

The cover of this book is fantastic.  You get a perfect glimpse of the Founding Witches, their love for pizza and the sink filled with bubbles which are actually cameras.  Those tricky witches watch everyone through those bubbles!

In this final book of the series you will see the Rebels, while few in numbers, coming together in a final effort to stop the glop and toxites and the BEM.  This book has an excellent pace to it.  There will be no falling asleep during this book!  There are some big battles going on.  The fight between good and evil is strong in this book.

As per most last books of the series, I am equally happy and sad.  It's always feels good to have a conclusion- an ending to wrap my heart around.  But, it's also sad to say goodbye to characters you've had so much fun with.

This book isn't out today, but it is set to release on Tuesday, Sept. 8th.  That's just a few days from now!  If you have middle grade readers or younger children around you, I would so highly recommend this series for them.  It's simply fantastic.

My thanks to the publisher, Shadow Mountain, for allowing me to read and review this book for them.

I am a fan of Harlequin Heartwarming.  Simply put, I know I can read this line of books and not worry about anything popping up that will make me cringe.  I love that I can depend on the Heartwarming line to bring me sweet, clean romances.

I haven't read book one in this series, but I don't think one is dependent on the other.  Individual people, individual stories.

I am a fan of Nate.  In every situation, he is a gentleman.  He is grounded and firm in who he is and what he is about.  Nate is patient and thinks things through before jumping in.  He is at his best when he is needed and he knows this.  Unfortunately, the one person he really wants refuses to need him.

Eden is a frustrating character.  I loved Eden with her boys but I just didn't love Eden with Nate.  Ever.  Her interactions with him always left me frustrated and irritated.  She is so stubborn and mean even.  It's a complete one-eighty from how she is with everyone else.  Her on-off, hot cold attitude got old after awhile.  I wanted Nate to move on and find someone who would appreciate his best qualities.  But, as I said, I did love Eden with her boys.  If only there were more Eden's in the world, willing to give so much to help kids who need it, the world would surely be a better place.

Overall, this was a good book and a nice distraction.  Even with my Eden frustration.  All's well that ends well.  :)  I'll be looking for the next book in this series!

The First Book in the Series

Once a Marine

Yes, it's true: Once upon a time, best-selling author Loree Lough (literally) sang for her supper, performing before packed audiences throughout the U.S. Now and then, she blows the dust from her 6-string to croon a tune or two for the "grandorables," but mostly, she just writes. (And writes.) Over the years, her stories have earned nearly 100 industry and "Readers' Choice" awards, 7 movie options, and over 80 4- and 5-star reviews.

There are more than 5,000,000 (yes, that's FIVE MILLION) copies of Loree's books in circulation, and in September of 2015, she'll have 108 books (fiction and non-fiction for kids and adults) 72 short stories, 2,500+ articles in print. To date, she has received 50,000+ letters from fans (a carton of books goes to Meredith P. in Joliet, IL -- which she has elected to donate to her local library --for writing the 50,000th letter)!

Loree loves sharing learned-the-hard-way lessons about the craft and the industry, and her comedic approach makes her a favorite (and frequent) guest of writers' organizations, book clubs, private and government institutions, college and high school writing programs both here and abroad.

A writer who believes in "giving back," Loree dedicates a portion of her income to Soldiers' Angels, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and other worthwhile organizations.

She splits her time between her home in the Baltimore suburbs and a cabin in the Allegheny Mountains, and shares both with her real-life hero Larry, who rarely complains, even when she adds yet another item to her vast collection of lighthouses, wind chimes, and "wolf stuff."

A Timeless Romance Anthology: All Hallow's Eve

Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: All Hallows’ Eve Collection. Three historical novellas and three contemporary novellas, all with romance, thrills, and chills.

In Sarah M. Eden’s mysterious novella OF GHOSTS AND GARDENS, if Enid Pryce has one downfall, it’s that she talks to the ghost in her garden, which doesn’t make her too popular among society’s elite. In fact, she returns to her home in Wales after a Season in Bath with not one offer of marriage. Deeming herself a failure at the nearly-spinster age of nineteen, she is pleasantly surprised when an English gentleman shows up in her garden, apparently intent on finding out more about the ghost. Burke Kennard, grandson of an English marquess, quickly becomes utterly charmed by the young Welsh woman, but the ghost in the garden is more likely to push them apart than pull them together.

In Annette Lyon’s enthralling story IT’S YOU, when Charlie and Anna both see the ghost of Nanny Mae, they think they’re losing their minds. Anna tries to find out more about the ghost and uncovers a decades’ old family secret. One that separated two people in love. Now, the ghost of Nanny Mae must set her wrongs to right. As Charlie and Anna explore the past, and the truth of what happened, they discover that the mistakes of the past might lead to love of the future.

In SOPHIA’S CURSE, a suspenseful novella by Heather B. Moore, Joan grows up in an abbey in France, believing that she is an orphan. A chance encounter with the foreboding owner of a neighboring estate, alters everything she’s understood about her parents. She discovers she’s an integral part of changing a decades-old curse, and that her life, as well as the handsome and intriguing Simon Rousseau’s life, are both in danger unless she makes an enormous sacrifice that will change the course of her dreams.

In Lisa Mangum’s haunting story THE SIRENS’ SONG, we meet recently widowed Oliver, the lead physician on a luxury cruise liner traveling to Greece. He hopes that the change of scenery will help ease his grief over his deceased wife, Cate. After falling overboard, though, he is captured by a siren and taken to a mystical island. Through the sirens' song, Oliver is able to relive his memories of Cate—both the good and the bad—as long as he gives away his memories of her. But can he sacrifice his best memory in exchange for one last chance to say good-bye?

In Jordan McCollum’s thrilling novella THE MAN OF HER DREAMS, homicide detective Alexandra Steen dreams about real murders before they happen, seeing the crime through the eyes of the killers. But the dreams never contain enough clues to save the victim before it's too late. Then one dream ends before a murder occurs—in a place she knows. She finds herself racing against time to prevent the deadly act, only to discover that the intended victim is a man she thought she’d never see again. Seven years might have passed since her breakup with Nick, but the years haven’t changed her feelings for him. Now, she must convince Nick that her dreams are real and find a way to prevent his death.

In Elana Johnson’s chilling story THE GHOST OF MILLHOUSE MANSION, Naomi knows her crush on Colt Jennings is unreasonable. When he invites her to his reclusive mansion to restore an old wooden rocking horse, Naomi can’t resist accepting the job. The more time Naomi spends touring his home, the more interested she becomes in Colt. Until she sees a man in the library who vanishes into thin air. She thinks she’s losing her mind until Colt tells her about the ghosts he’s been seeing for years.

I've been reading these Timeless Romance Anthologies from the very beginning.  I pretty much love every one that comes out.  I love the authors and I love the varying themes.  In this collection, things get a little bit spooky.  (cue scary music)

The theme of this collection makes it different from all the others so far.  It was so fun and it kept my attention from beginning to end.  This is the perfect October/Halloween book to read, especially if you enjoy a bit of romance (all sweet) and maybe a bit of the paranormal to go with it.  There are ghosts, freaky sirens who steal memories and a girl that sees murders in her dreams.  Eek!

It was fun to see a few authors in here that don't usually show up in these anthologies as well as a few of my regular favorites.  What a great collection!  I loved them all.

Love at the Apple Blossom Inn (A Rose Arbor Novella) by Kristy Tate

A small town girl.
A rock star living a lie.
Their paths cross and lead them down a road neither of them expected to find: love at the Apple Blossom Inn.
Janey knows that life doesn’t come with a happy-ending guarantee. She needs to keep her feet securely on the ground working two jobs, going to school, and caring for her little brother. She has no time or room for romance.
After an accident leaves his charmed life in ruins, Derrick abandons his Hollywood lifestyle and checks into rehab. The world believes that Derrick Cordell the rock star is dead. And despite his beating heart and breathing lungs, that’s exactly how he feels until, disguised and living incognito in the tiny town of Rose Arbor, Washington, he meets Janey, who loves him as plain old Eric Roudell, the wanna-be music teacher.
But secrets have a way of unraveling. When Janey discovers the truth about Eric/Derrick, how can she love someone she doesn’t even know? Especially since love is not on her to-do list?

 * GoodreadsAmazon *

First off, the cover of this book is so cute, I think.  I like it.  :)

This is a novella, over way too fast in my opinion.  This is a story that could easily be stretched out a bit and made into a full length novel with more depth and time for growth.  I really enjoyed the characters and the setting.  Both were believable and real.  I could picture the scenes playing out in my head like a movie which is always a great thing.  The relationship between Janey and Derrick just happened so fast.  It went from a couple interactions, to an afternoon together with her brother to declarations of love after a separation.  It was hard to believe in the love there.  The other thing that I felt lacked some depth was Janey's relationship with her mother and Derrick's road to recovery.  The foundations of this book just weren't there for me.

But, having said that, here are some things that I did love.  I loved the sense of community in this story.  A town that rallies together when tragedy hits always makes for warm fuzzy feelings.  As I said before, I loved the B & B setting and the characters.  I felt like I had a good handle on personalities by the end of this book.

I haven't read the other books in this series but I see that they are full length novels- much longer than this one.  It looks like each book can stand alone but perhaps I am missing some valuable background on Laney by not reading the other books first.  I am going to check out the other books in this series because I enjoyed the author's writing style and I'm curious!  :)

As of today, this novella is FREE on Amazon!  If you haven't read anything by Kristy Tate, this is a good opportunity to check out a new author.  Pick it up and let me know how you liked it.

Content:  Some references to alcohol abuse and a wild lifestyle.  Some mild innuendo.
