Not a Fine Gentleman (Rogue Hearts #6) by Donna Hatch + $20 Gift Card Giveaway!

Margaret, the eldest of the misbegotten Amesbury family, is accused of murdering her jerk of a husband and then fleeing. Conner Jackson, a Bow Street Runner, is hunting her down to bring her to justice. Or so he thinks...

This romantic story of loss and betrayal, forgiveness and redemption, and strangers marrying, will leave you laughing, crying, and swooning. Sprinkled liberally with suspense, mystery, and heart-melting kisses, this is not your ordinary historical tale of an arranged marriage nor of redeeming the rakes. Fans of Victorian and Regency Eras, as well as those seeking clean and wholesome romance with plenty of chemistry, will love this story!

I really had a fun time with this book.  I'm loving these Amesbury siblings because they are such a diverse group of characters but at the heart of it, they are all strong, loyal and brave.  Enter Margaret, accused of murdering her louse of a husband and on the run.  Conner Jackson is out to retrieve her but boy does he get more than he bargained for!

The mystery and intrigue started right off the bat, throwing me into the thick of things right along with Margaret.  I loved how the whole story played out because between the mystery and the sparks between Conner and Margaret, I was entirely engaged from beginning to end.  Margaret is feisty and determined but also so vulnerable and hurt.  I really loved her.  Bridging the gap in station between Conner and Margaret was tricky at times, especially for Conner, but thankfully Conner wised up about certain things.  Good thing, because I was about ready to smack him upside the head too.  :)

Donna Hatch is definitely a favorite of mine.  Her books have vibrant characters and excellent pacing with so much going on to entertain my brain.  This book was exactly what I was hoping for.

This is book five in this series but I believe it can stand alone.  However, you will probably enjoy this series best if you read it in order.

Wedding Wagers (Timeless Regency Collection) by Donna Hatch, Heather B. Moore, and Michele Paige Holmes

Three wagers. Three couples. Three chances at love. Let the bets begin.

A WAGER FOR LOVE by Donna Hatch:
For once, Phillip would like to be seen as more than the younger brother of a duke. When he unexpectedly meets the one girl in all London who doesn’t give two figs for his rank in society, she won’t give him the time of day. Determined to gain her attention, he accidentally tips over her boat and dumps her into a river. Not the best way to convince a lady of worth that he is a gentleman of promise. Frustrated, Phillip makes a rash wager with a friend: he vows he’ll not only gain her forgiveness, but her hand in marriage by the end of the Season. The stakes are high in this romantic Regency romp!

THE FINAL WAGER by Heather B. Moore:
When Victor Roland, Earl of Locken, enters into a game of twenty-one with Lord Southill, the stakes get quickly out of control. Before Victor knows it, Southill is betting the dowry of his sister. While completely illegal, Victor is mostly insulted, so he does what any gentleman of the ton should do. He punches Southill out. Problem is, Southill is in so much debt that he’d been kicked out of his townhouse earlier that day. So Victor is forced to deliver Southill at his estate outside of London . . . only to meet Southill’s sister, Lady Juliet, a woman who Victor now wishes he’d bet on.

AN IMPROBABLE WAGER by Michele Paige Holmes:
Sherborne Alexander Rowley III has come home to marry his neighbor—and solve his financial problems in one fell swoop. Love doesn’t figure into the equation, only the need to save his family’s estate. The reserved Miss Emily Montgomery seems willing enough, leaving the only possible obstacle to Sherborne’s success his childhood friend, Eli Linfield, and the wager they made long ago that Eli would be the one to marry Emily. When the timely birth of a colt, Emily’s mischievous sister Sophia, and Emily herself all conspire to ruin Sherborne’s plans, one night of mayhem unravels far more than their betrothal. Emily is not as demure as he believed, nor is Eli what he has pretended these many years. Yet the future for all may yet be bright. Sherborne might even wager on it.

This book was so much fun to read!  These are three of my favorite authors so I knew I was in for a treat with this book.  I loved that each story revolved around a wager the character(s) made.  It made for some sticky situations because we all know how wagers can most certainly come back to haunt you!

I thought each book was entertaining and well done.  I loved how each male character in each story worked so hard to get the girl he wanted.  The wagers were out of a sincere desire to ultimately end up with the girl of their dreams.  How sweet is that?  Yeah, I loved those men even if making wagers is not the smartest thing to do.

Content:  clean romance, some kissing.

What a fun collection of stories from a fantastic group of authors!  I love that this group of people have come together to do what they do best- write stories- to raise money for a fellow author friend that is struggling and in need of support.  What a great community of friends, right?

These books will transport you to various times and places but all of them have one thing in common.  Sweet, clean romance, which I love, so this anthology was perfect for me to settle right in to.  I don't have time to review each book individually but they are all good.  I have a few favorites- Origami Girl, Falling for Lucy, and Just This Moment.  You just cannot go wrong picking up this collection.  Read them binge style or savor them one by one, here and there.  There are so many stories!

Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch

Holly has two Christmas wishes this year; finally earn her mother's approval by gaining the notice of a handsome earl with an impeccable reputation, and learn the identity of the stranger who gave her a heart-shattering kiss...even if that stranger is the resident Christmas ghost.

This was the perfect "after Thanksgiving, getting in the mood for Christmas" book to read this weekend!  This regency romance started things off just right with a Christmas kiss by a mysterious stranger.  I love when books start right off with the kissing!  ha.  Holly receives the kiss in the dark and has no idea who her mysterious stranger is but she cannot forget that kiss.

Holly has been under her mother's thumb for so long, always abiding by her wishes.  It was awesome to see Holly stand up for herself when she finally found something worth standing up for.  It made me so proud of her.

This book is on the shorter side but perfect for this time of year.  I loved the Christmas traditions that filled this book!  I finished it wanting to play my Christmas music, turn on the fireplace and drink hot chocolate.  And that my friends, is a happy place to be.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love Donna Hatch's books.  Every single time.  She has such a way of making me love her characters- imperfections and all.

Tristan is a notorious rake.  It's hard to shake a label like that even when you want to.  Tristan and Leticia have been friends all their lives so they know each other well.  I love that they both had that relationship to draw upon throughout the rough waters of this book.  It helped them and it helped me to see Tristan through Leticia's eyes as she remembered Tristan from his childhood.  I fell in love with these characters.  I wanted so badly for them to figure things out.  I loved the swoony moments (and there were quite a few) that had me reaching for a fan to cool my flushed face.  :)

This book is set in a series but can stand alone.  You will love this book more though if you read Courting the Countess first.  Just a suggestion because I'm all about loving these books.  If you have never read a book by Donna Hatch this is an awesome place to start.  She really is one of my favorite authors in the Regency Romance genre.

I love books by Donna Hatch and I'm always so excited to see a new one coming out.  This book is novella size, so it's a bit shorter in length.  I gobbled this book up in one sitting and loved every minute of it.

Stories about childhood friends turning into more is a classically fun premise.  Especially when there is a glitch in the system (like he's courting another girl!).  Curse Evan and his loyal, honor bound heart!  Just kidding.  Evan wouldn't be Evan without that honor.  Rowena is a friend I would like to have.  She is bright and happy.  Donna Hatch does such a good job of creating characters that feel real and sincere.  I love that.

This book was just fun.  It made me smile and left me feeling happy.  What more could I ask for?!

If you love regency romance, Donna Hatch is an author you don't want to miss.  She is one of my favorites.  Her books have strong characters with plenty of tension and sparks flying between them.

I love how this story unfolded, bit by bit.  The more I knew about both Richard and Elizabeth, the more I loved them.  Each had personal demons that tormented them daily, and kept them from letting go and loving.  It was quite a journey for these two but it was well worth it as a reader.

I had plenty of flutterings in belly with this book!  Oh, the build up and the misunderstanding.  This book has all the things I look for as a reader.  Every time I pick up a book by Donna Hatch, I know I'm in for a treat.

Summer House Party (Timeless Regency Collection) by Regina Scott, Donna Hatch, Sarah M. Eden

A ENGAGEMENT OF CONVENIENCE by Regina Scott: Kitty Chapworth is nearly a spinster, and an orphan living on the charity of her uncle, with nothing to recommend her for the marriage mart. Her primary purpose is relegated to acting chaperone for her cousins until she can see them successfully married. Kitty remains focused on her duty even though she knows her future is bleak. When Quentin Adair returns from a long ten years working in Jamaica and proposes a wild charade to Kitty, she agrees, although the plan might reawaken her old feelings for Quentin. Can a reformed rake convince the perfect chaperone to overlook propriety for love?

A PERFECT MATCH by Donna Hatch: Genevieve attends a summer house party hosted by her best friend who can't wait to introduce her to a gentleman she wants to marry, Christian Amesbury. After meeting him, Genevieve determines Christian is perfect . . . for her. Torn between loyalty to her best friend and the yearnings of her heart, Genevieve must first escape the attention of a powerful lord who's obsessed with her and who tries to rob her of any hope for a happily ever after.

THE PAUPERS’ HOUSE PARTY by Sarah M. Eden: It’s a rare event that Edward Downy and his brother are invited to a house party by a member of the ton. But when they arrive, Edward quickly realizes this house party is different than any other. All invited guests are quite destitute, fallen members of Society barely hanging onto their homes. The hosts of the house party, the Warricks, then make a stunning announcement—they intend to gift all their properties to one fortunate guest. As the guests race to impress the Warricks, Edward finds a fast friend in Agatha Holmwood, who shares his same aversion to the horrible expectations. But their growing fondness for each other only makes the game more painful.

 * Amazon * Goodreads *

I am always on the lookout for new collections in this series.  I love regency romances- especially when my favorite authors are writing them!  The stories in this book all revolve somehow around a summer house party which is such a fun setting.  Each author has their own take and their own voice so each story is distinctly different and so good.

I love a good second chance at first love kind of story.  Regina Scott does a fabulous job of creating back story, character development and growth in a short amount of time.  This was an excellent story and I really enjoyed it!

Donna Hatch is one of my fave's and her story links in with a series she writes about the Amesbury brothers.  I love that series.  Yummy it is!  This one also has a bit of intrigue which adds to the flavor.

Sarah Eden is the best.  I will always, at any time, be in for reading anything by Sarah Eden.  I loved this novella because it was kind of a twist on a house party.  Instead of the rich and stuffy, we get a house party full of those in poverty.  It was a fun switcheroo and it made me smile.

If you love regency romance, you've got to give this one a try!  It was perfectly diverting.

I just loved this book.  I had to start out with that and I'll probably end with that too.  This series (Rogue Heart) is one of my favorites.  These Amesbury brothers are a little thick headed to begin with but their transformations are awesome and when those boys let go and love, boy are they a force to be reckoned with!

Finally Grant has his story told.  I've been waiting for Grant's story- I just knew it would be good.  And it was.  Grant is one closed up guy.  And I mean closed up.  Sealed up tight.  Poor Grant.  He doesn't even know how shriveled up his soul has become denying himself love and comfort from family and friends.  But Grant has a good heart.  He tries to protect people from bad guys and he offers help to people where he can.

Jocelyn is so easy to like.  Even Grant has trouble disliking her and that's something.  The characters in this book are developed and I really felt like I knew them well by the end of the book.  I craved interactions between Grant and Jocelyn because they always made me smile.

This book was romantic and had a bit of intrigue.  I was happy to see glimpses of the Amesbury brothers throughout, still happy and well.  Now Grant's story has been told and I can't wait to see where we go next with Donna Hatch.  Wherever it is, I will be there.  I loved this book.  It took me to my happy place!

Autumn Masquerade (Timeless Regency Collection) by Josi Kilpack, Donna Hatch and Nancy Campbell Allen

Timeless Regency Collection: Three Brand New Novellas from Bestselling Regency Romance Authors...

A MERRY DANCE by Josi S. Kilpack. When Lila overhears her uncle talking about a man coming to look for property in the county, she doesn’t think twice, until her uncle says he hopes Lila will find enough interest to marry the man. How can she marry someone named Mortimer Luthford, not to mention that his advanced age of thirty-three, and especially since she’s already in love with her absent cousin Neville? But when Mortimer arrives, Lila has to try every trick known to women to act not interested in the rather fascinating man, which proves a very difficult façade to maintain.

UNMASKING THE DUKE by Donna Hatch. The last thing Hannah Palmer wants to do is flirt with men in a crowded ballroom, but when her sister throws a Masquerade Ball, Hannah can’t say no to the invitation and takes comfort behind a mask. She dances with a charming masked man, matching him wit for wit. When the glorious evening culminates in a kiss, and the two remove their masks, Hannah is horrified to discover the man she’s been flirting with all night is her most despised neighbor, the Duke of Suttenberg. No matter how charming the duke was at the ball, and how wonderful the kiss, he is the last man she’d ever accept.

WHAT’S IN A NAME by Nancy Campbell Allen. Penelope Timely has a terrible secret. She’s been writing letters to the Duke of Wilmington, pretending to be her ever-proper twin sister, Persephone. Now, the duke has written that he’ll be coming for the Autumn Masquerade Ball and Festival. Penelope will have to continue the charade while the duke is in town in order to protect her sister. The Duke of Wilmington isn’t fooled for a moment, but instead of confessing that he knows about the deception, he finds himself utterly charmed by Penelope and jumps into the game of deception to see how far the twin sisters will take it.

I am so happy I got to read this book.  These three regency romance novellas were simply perfect and they made me smile.  I loved how each one revolved in some way around a Masquerade Ball because it was like a small thread of continuity that linked them all together.

I couldn't pick a favorite of the three if I tried.  I loved each one of these stories.  The regency setting was so fun, the characters were clear and developed.  Each one was light and charming.  This is one of my favorite collections, I think.  Love!

Adult Historical Romance
Paperback, 348 Pages
               December 14 2013

Desperate to protect her father from trial and death, Genevieve breaks off her engagement with Christian Amesbury and marries a blackmailer. After a year of marriage, she flees her husband's violent domination only to have fate bring her back to Christian. Just when she thinks she's started a new life of safety and solitude, her husband tracks her down, stalks her, and threatens everyone she loves.

Still brokenhearted over Genevieve's betrayal a year ago, Christian can't believe she's come back into his life--and worse, that she's done it on the anniversary of his brother's death, a death that haunts him. Though tempted to throw her back into the river where he found her, he can't leave her at the mercy of the terrifying man she married.

When her husband torments Genevieve and puts his family in danger, Christian will do anything to protect those he loves...anything except give Genevieve another chance to break his heart.

I always enjoy books by Donna Hatch.  This has been a fun series so far with these Amesbury brothers, each with their own demons to battle.  Donna’s characters always have personality oozing from them.  It’s so easy to get caught up in the story and feel like you know these characters.  The great thing about a series involving family is that the characters never really go away even if the books are not centered on them.  They make those appearances (as families often do) and it feels good to still have that connection with characters I previously loved.

In this book we get the full story on the “perfectly perfect” Christian.  I’m so glad because I’ve been waiting to know more about him.  He is the youngest of the Amesbury brothers and has spent his whole life trying to prove to his brothers that he is just as good as them.  I just love Christian.  He is honorable and all things a gentleman should be.  He doesn’t have those “rakish” qualities but instead has a charming sweetness about him.  Just thinking about him makes me want to say again, I just love Christian.

Christian isn’t without his demons though.  He has a secret that haunts him.  When Genevieve, the love of his heart, betrays him, Christian goes to a dark and cheerless place.

Genevieve is a very loyal lady.  She tries so hard to protect her father and mother but in doing so, invites the very devil himself into her life.  She gives up the life of love she knew she could have with Christian to protect her father’s secret.  I’m so glad we didn’t spend much time lingering in that year of hell for Genevieve and instead just get glimpses along the way of what she endured.  It is so sad and her husband gave me the creeps.

One of the things I love best about this book is how those Amesbury brothers rally the troops when one is in need.  They are quick to jump in and stand behind each other.  It’s a good feeling to know someone has your back.  I think Christian learns a lot in this book about family and forgiveness.  That is always a good message to walk away with as a reader.

I really, really enjoyed this book.  It was an awesome escape from reality and I literally devoured this book in a day.  I love when that happens.  (My family, not so much.  Fix your own dinner, family! Hee hee)

About Donna Hatch

My passion for writing began at the tender age of 8 and I’ve been hooked ever since. Of course, I also wanted to be an actress and a ballerina, but one out of three isn’t bad, right?

In between caring for six children, (7 counting my husband), my day job, my free lance editing and copy writing, and my many volunteer positions, I manage to carve out time to indulge in my writing obsession. After all, it IS an obsession. My family is more patient and supportive than I deserve.
