Altered - Revelations of the Evolved by Shawnda Currie

This book has an excellent plot.  I like how the author was able to weave a sort of futuristic time travel element into this book.  It made it stand out as a little different than many other books similar to this book in plot.

I think this book has lots of potential.  Unfortunately, for me, it fell a bit flat.  While I liked the characters well enough, I never felt any connection to them.  My feelings never became engaged.  The characters were under developed and I didn't feel like I really knew them.  The relationship between Taylor and Lacey was very unbelievable.  I never felt the connection, at least on Taylor's side.  There was no undercurrents, no tension, no feeling.

As I said the part of the plot that brought in the time travel was the best idea in this book.  People from the future coming back to help prevent major horrible things from happening?  That sounds very cool, right?  I just wish this book had more development to it.  A little more struggle brought forth in a way that I could feel it.  

There are so many great books out there that are very similar to this book in ideas and plot.  When compared with those, this book just didn't grip me and make me feel all the things I wanted to feel.  

Content:  This book had swearing (including the F word, multiple times).  If you follow my reviews, you know I'm not a fan of swearing, especially the F word in YA fiction.  The characters sleep together but nothing sexual is mentioned directly. 

It's always hard as a reviewer to say things that aren't as favorable about a book.  While I didn't find this book to be quite to my liking, I do appreciate the time this author took in writing it.  I know writing a book is a very personal thing and I wish Shawnda Currie all the best in her writing career.
