Grace Unplugged by Melody Carlson + A Soundtrack Giveaway from the Movie!

Paperback: 304 pages
Publisher: B&H Books; Mti edition (September 1, 2013)
Language: English

Grace Trey is an eighteen-year-old singer as passionate about her Christian faith as she is her phenomenal, God-given musical talent. Both traits come from her father, one-hit wonder Johnny Tray who found Jesus after losing his chart success two decades ago.

When Grace encounters her own music break of a lifetime, the sudden dive into the "real world" puts her deeper beliefs to the test. Pop superstardom is just within reach but appears to require some spiritual compromise. Will Grace reject her faith, or will she own it?

Grace Unplugged is based on the motion picture of the same name starring AJ Michalka (Super 8) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men).  (In theaters October 2013)

This book is, obviously, a Christian Fiction book.  Grace Trey has got stars in her eyes.  She dreams of making it big with her music instead of being confined by her father and what he wants her to do with her music.  Grace, who is like most teenagers, desires freedom and the opportunity to make her own decisions.  She wants to follow her dreams and she feels like her father is keeping her from realizing those dreams.

Johnny has seen both sides of the story himself.  He know the dangers of fame and he is trying to protect his daughter.  His strong Christian convictions sometimes come across as confining to his daughter.  In an attempt to reign her in, he ends up driving her away.

I can identify with both Grace and Johnny.  I remember what it was like to be young and want to sprout my own wings, be my own person.  As a mother of teenagers, I also know what it is like to want to protect your kids.  I want them to make good decisions.  It's hard to watch your kids grow up but it's also exciting.

This book was easy to read.  I was invested in the story from the beginning.  I could identify with the struggles of all the characters.  I really believe that it is through the struggles that we build the strength of our own identity-  Who we are and what we really believe in.  Grace goes through this learning process herself.  She learns some hard lessons but I think they made her better in the end.

You can buy Grace Unplugged at Amazon.

Grace Unplugged will also be released as a movie so look for it in theaters October 4th.  Find out more about the movie and check out the trailer HERE.

AND, because we are just superly lucky (yes, I know superly isn't really a word but it seemed to fit my excitement) I get to host a giveaway for the soundtrack to Grace Unplugged!  My thanks to Grace Hill Media for providing for this giveaway.  The soundtrack includes songs from AJ Michalka, Chris Tomlin, TobyMac and more. You can listen to AJ's single here:
