The Elite by Kiera Cass

Thirty-five girls came to the palace to compete in the Selection. All but six have been sent home. And only one will get to marry Prince Maxon and be crowned princess of Illea.

America still isn’t sure where her heart lies. When she’s with Maxon, she’s swept up in their new and breathless romance, and can’t dream of being with anyone else. But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

Just when America is sure she’s made her choice, a devastating loss makes her question everything again. And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.

This is a sequel I've been waiting for.  Drumming my fingers impatiently for.  So happy to finally, finally get to read it!!  Woot, woot!

This book picks up right where The Selection left off.  I was immediately pulled right back into America's world in the palace with Maxon.  And Aspen.  And all the other girls.  :)

I say this all the time but I'm really not a fan of love triangles.  There is a love triangle of gigantic proportions in this book and I don't like it.  I just want America to stop being so wishy washy and pick one guy and STICK WITH IT!  But, no.  It can't be that easy and she just cannot do it.  Actually, as much as I like Aspen, I just want him to go away and I want America to pick Maxon.  That's what I want.  Perhaps I might get that someday?!  (sorry team Aspen fans)  I think I need a team Maxon widget for my side bar.  Anyone know where I can pick one of those up?

While it's true that I do hate love triangles, what I  love are these characters.  I just can't help myself.  They are so well written and engaging.  At times I am really frustrated by America but I have to keep reminding myself that her character is only barely 17.  She is young and still learning about herself and how to interact with others.  My heart just breaks for Maxon.  The burdens he carries, the hurt he feels.  Love him.

I read this book in one day.  Completely loved every minute of it.  I stayed up way to late to finish it because I just had to.  It made me smile and it made me sad.  I cannot wait to see where the next book takes me.

Content:  Mild swearing and profanity, some kissing scenes and some violence

I'm sure you can find this book everywhere, but here is the link for Amazon.
