Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
Yes. This book is every bit as good as they say. I was doing a bit of hoarding with this book. I really wanted to read it but I really didn't want to get to the end knowing I would have to wait another year to read the next book. Oh, the cliff hangers.
It took me a minute to remember Divergent and get back into the feel of Tris and her world again. I love that Insurgent picks RIGHT up where Divergent left off. We literally don't miss a beat.
In Insurgent we get a closer look at some of the other factions. It was so interesting to me. All of the factions have awesome traits but it really is true that too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. We cannot become too lopsided in life. We need parts of everything to find balance and order.
I know there are lots of people out there who thought Tris was annoying. Overcome by grief, heartache and guilt, Tris was struggling. I actually liked Tris a lot in this book. I think her struggles were realistic. Watching your parents die and having to kill your best friend is not something you just get over with the turn of a page. I think watching a character deal with the kinds of emotions that could potentially become debilitating and rise above them in the end shows true character and courage. I think that is what I loved most about this book.
Veronica Roth is an amazing writer. She has created a world that I can envision and characters that I'm invested in. I couldn't stop reading this book. I loved the pull. It is going to be an unbelievable long wait for the next book. I love this series.
Content: Some mild swearing and some moments of intense violence and torture.
Great review. I agree with you 100%.
ReplyDeleteI CANNOT wait until the 3rd book is out. Ugh, why does it have to be a year? Why can't books just magically appear completely written and revised? We probably wouldn't have to wait so long if that was possible ;)
No kidding! The wait is going to be so long... I guess it's good there are lots of other books out there to fill up the time! :)
DeleteI struggled with the fact that this picks up right after Divergent since it had been a year since I read that book. I wish there had been a bit more information to remind the readers who didn't have a chance to reread Divergent even if I eventually got back in to the story.
ReplyDeleteI hear there is a refresher out there that you can read to remind you of Divergent before you pick up Insurgent. I didn't actually read it but here is the link.

It would probably help readers who, like you, wished to catch up before diving right back in.
I absolutely loved this book. I ended up enjoying it more than Divergent. It was absolutely a page turner. I'm so bloody eager for Book 3.
ReplyDeleteOh awesome! I just finished Divergent last weekend. Hoping to get to Insurgent soon, but have a ton of review books and a hoard of other releases I've been dying to read!
ReplyDeleteBut love the review! Can't wait to read it!
I completely agree with you! I pre-ordered Insurgent a long time ago and when it finally arrived, I read it immediately!

Gah! Why do I feel like the only one who hasn't read this book?? I guess at least I can say I'm not having to impatiently await for book three? Perhaps I will read this one closer to the release date for book three...
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your review! I can't wait to read this one...I'm on an eternal waiting list at the library. Thanks for the review!

I liked this book, but I prefered the first one. I didn't like Tris in this one, I didn't find her "suicide impulse" realistic. But overall, I really liked it !
ReplyDeleteI finished this book a couple of weeks ago and now I can't wait for the final book to come!
ReplyDeleteI can't say that I agree with all Tris' decision here but I'll live with that. I just hope that things will get better between Four and Tris.
Thanks for reminding me why I wanted to read this series. Need to dig it out.
ReplyDeleteOMG I want to read this series so much! Cannot wait to get my hands on Divergent!(Waiting for it to arrived to my country)
ReplyDeleteI love this book! My daughter bought it so of course she got to read it first! I was dying waiting but it didn't take her long :) We love Divergent and Insurgent and can't wait for the 3rd which I'm guessing will be called Emergent :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this book! I am barely reading Divergent, but I am loving it so far.
ReplyDeleteOh my. If you haven't read this yet.. I don't know.. you're not human!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite books EVER!!!
I know the feeling of having to wait for a book/sequel to come out, just after finishing a great book and dying to know how it continues! I haven't read the Divergent books...I'm going to look out for them.
