Review: Prom and Prejudice

From  Goodreads:
After winter break, the girls at the very prestigious Longbourn Academy become obsessed with the prom. Lizzie Bennet, who attends Longbourn on a scholarship, isn’t interested in designer dresses and expensive shoes, but her best friend, Jane, might be — especially now that Charles Bingley is back from a semester in London.

Lizzie is happy about her friend’s burgeoning romance but less than impressed by Charles’s friend, Will Darcy, who’s snobby and pretentious. Darcy doesn’t seem to like Lizzie either, but she assumes it’s because her family doesn’t have money. Clearly, Will Darcy is a pompous jerk — so why does Lizzie find herself drawn to him anyway?

Will Lizzie’s pride and Will’s prejudice keep them apart? Or are they a prom couple in the making? Whatever the result, Elizabeth Eulberg, author of The Lonely Hearts Club, has concocted a very funny, completely stylish delight for any season — prom or otherwise.

I was a bit hesitant about reading this because I really LOVE the real Pride and Prejudice.  How could you even compare?  And really, you can’t.  But, this was a fun, light read that made me smile.  It’s not deep or thought provoking, and I’m okay with that.  The base characters, their traits and the main idea of “pride and prejudice” are similar in the two books.  This was just fluffier and current.  I really did enjoy reading it.  I liked it heaps better than The Lonely Hearts Club, also by Eulberg.  I appreciated that this book was clean (you know, no swearing or sex).  Oh, and for the record, I loved the ending too.

  1. I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting but I think Eulberg did a great job of bringing this cast of characters into this century. The only part i was all that happy about is the minimal role Caroline plays...

  4. @Truly Bookish

I didn't like Lonely Hearts Club much. It's been awhile since I read it, but I just wasn't a fan. I liked this book much better. :)

  5. I got this book recently and read it also. I must agree; not much can compare with the original Pride and Prejudice. It was cute though. Very light, and more in today's terms

  6. I have not gotten around to reading Pride & Prejudice but I would like to b/c there are so many adaptations/off-shoots that sound good.

This one sounds like a fun read. I don't always want to read a serious/thought-provoking book. Sometimes light and fluffy hits the spot. This is true for movies too. Thanks for your review.
