Package Deal (Ruled Out Romances 2) by Charissa Stastny

Angels come in different packages.

Single mom Spring is doing her best to raise her two-year-old daughter alone. She has no desire to date again, so is pleasantly surprised at her best friend’s wedding when a handsome man’s flirtations charm, instead of annoy her. But when her toddler runs up and calls her Mommy, she can tell by his reaction that her daughter is a deal-breaker. He can’t escape fast enough.

Hudson Sandel is proud of his bachelor status even as he attends his little brother’s wedding as best man. Too bad the only woman who tempts him has a daughter that rules her out. Instant fatherhood isn’t on his agenda. But when the kid throws a tantrum, he swoops in to help keep her from ruining his brother’s wedding. When the night ends, he can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous blonde’s expression when he played hero to her child. It made him feel uncomfortably good, and it doesn’t help that he keeps running into the angelic duo around town. Hudson knows Spring and her daughter are a package deal. The question is: Does he want to take on that responsibility, or will he stick to the road leading to professional success and glory?

Hudson is a player and Spring?  Well, she is not.  Spring is firmly grounded in providing and caring for her daughter.  Hudson is living the bachelor life to the fullest while climbing up the career ladder as a lawyer.  They are at polar opposite places in life, with polar opposite ideas of what is important.  And yet, attraction.

As Hudson and Spring keep running into each other at various places, Hudson helps with the monster two year old.  He is some kind of two year old whisperer, I guess, but his toddler magic helps Spring and as a single mother, that is very attractive to her.

Hudson wasn't a character I liked every minute but it was extra satisfying to see his transformation as he began to regain perspective by helping Spring.  He eventually remembered what was really important, what he really wanted to do when he started out as a lawyer and how helping others can make you feel whole.

I enjoyed the interactions between Hudson and Spring.  They all occur in very normal and natural circumstances that we can all relate to.  There was a very natural progression to their encounters and each one helped the characters move forward in some way.  I'm so glad there was an epilogue which helped wrap everything up for me with a pretty bow.  Yes, I'm a pretty bow girl.  I was reading another series at the same time as this book and it left me hanging so the pretty bow wrap up was just what I was hankering for.

How to Catch a Cowboy in 10 Days (Unlikely Cowgirl) by Kimberly Krey

There’s no denying Ann Simpson is passive, so when she’s challenged to read a book that could change her life, she eagerly accepts. If she writes a winning article about her transformation, it could earn her a writing slot with Walquest Weekly, taking her career to the next level. And who knows—maybe it could empower her to step out of her romance novels and into her own happily ever after.

Ann packs her bags and her book and heads to Montana where she hopes to reinvent herself. Caught off guard by the cowboy of her dreams, Trey Richardson, Ann falls hard and fast. But does Trey love the real Ann, or the book-made woman she’s invented for the article?

One of my favey faves has done it again with this new release!  I'm just going to say this right now because I know it needs to come out of me and even though I say this all the time, here goes:  There is just something about cowboys.  <sigh>

Ann and Trey are two characters I liked from the very first pages.  I fell right into the story and their lives so easily.  I love when that happens.  This story plays out just like a movie.  I wish this were a movie because it would probably be one of my favorite chick flicks!  It has all the right yummy elements.

My favorite quote:  "Life isn't living if you don't fight the fear."  Yes.  That.

A Night in Grosvenor Square (Timeless Regency Collection) by Sarah M. Eden, Annette Lyon, Heather B. Moore

A MATCH FOR PRINCESS POMPOUS by Sarah M. Eden
Matchmaker Adelaide Northrop may be embarking on her greatest challenge yet. Miss Odette Armistead has been dubbed “Princess Pompous” by Society’s elite, and Odette’s parents are desperate to see her married off to a respectable gentleman. When Adelaide first meets Odette, she is expecting a young lady who fits the pompous description. Instead, Adelaide discovers that Odette is far from conceited, but has chosen to wear a mask in a desperate attempt to hide her love for a gentleman who has been chosen for someone else. It seems that Adelaide has far more than matchmaking to accomplish.

CONFECTIONS AND PRETENSE by Annette Lyon
Anne Preston dreams of opening her own dessert shop some day and saves every spare penny she earns working at Gunter’s Tea Shop. She makes ice cream molds to perfection, bakes and decorates cakes, and hopes to one day be an independent shop owner. When an American man orders an ice, Anne is immediately taken with Davis Whitledge, but he is far above her station in life, so she tries to forget about his cordiality. Soon, she finds herself in a dangerous situation when confronted by two troublemakers, and Davis happens to be nearby. He sends the scoundrels on their way, but this only makes Anne more of a target. He doesn’t understand London ways, and his generosity has the potential to steal Anne’s dreams, or to make them soar.

LITTLE LONDON by Heather B. Moore
Ellen Humphreys has never had a Season, has never danced the waltz, and will likely never do so while confined to watching over her ill mother at their country estate. Therefore, Ellen creates her own Little London, and imagines all the gentleman she’d dance with and all of the friendships she’d have with other young ladies, if only she were allowed to have a Season. When Quinn Edwards, the Marquess of Kenworth, comes upon her quite by happenstance while Ellen is imagining herself in a London ballroom, she is mortified about her playacting. But a chain of events is set off from this one meeting that has Ellen questioning if her reputation would ever survive a Season or another encounter with the marquess.

I've been looking forward to this book for quite awhile!  These Timeless Collections are some of my favorites and I always know when a new one comes out I am in for a treat.

The different writing styles of these three different authors really shine in this collection.  Even though all three stories are regencies, I loved the slightly different variations that made them feel unique.

In the first book, Adelaide the matchmaker had a slightly magical quality about her.  I loved the way she could "see" things other people missed and used her knowledge of human behavior to manipulate situations to the best benefit of all.

The second book comes from the different viewpoint of a worker in a lower station.  I loved the bit of danger that made my heart pound a little harder, and the shining American knight who didn't follow the English social norm.

Little London was so romantic.  The first meet is perfect- it kind of had a sleeping beauty quality to it.  The mean mother talk reminded me of Pride and Prejudice.  This was a fun one for sure!

I don't think I could call a favorite of the three, I really enjoyed them all!

Romance is in the Air with Author Becky Monson! $25 Giveaway, Free Ebook!

Julia Dorning is a spinster, or at least on the road to becoming one. She has no social life, hates her career, and lives in her parent’s basement with her cat, Charlie. With the arrival of Jared Moody, the new hire at work, Julia’s mundane life is suddenly turned upside down. Her instant (and totally ridiculous) crush on the new guy causes Julia to finally make some long-overdue changes, in hopes to find a life that includes more than baking and hanging out with Charlie. But when the biggest and most unexpected change comes, will the new and improved Julia be able to overcome it? Or will she go back to her spinster ways?

Julia Dorning thought she would die a lonely spinster. That was until nine months ago, when her world was turned upside down. Now she’s got a dream career as a bakery owner, and a relationship with handsome Jared Moody—a life she never thought possible. Just as she’s starting to feel comfortable in her new life, Julia is invited to battle it out on national television making cupcakes. An amazing opportunity, if she can muster up the confidence to do it, that is. Then, out of the blue, Jared goes and throws a rather large wrench in their relationship causing Julia to have to make some big decisions. With her two trusted confidants off in wedding la la land, Julia is on her own to figure everything out. Left to her own devices, will Julia be able to work things out for herself? Or will she make a disaster of it all? Find out in Becky Monson’s sequel to Thirty-Two Going on Spinster!

Julia Dorning is about to lose it. Between her over-the-top wedding that her sister, Anna, took upon herself to create, and the under-staffed popular bakery that she runs, she can barely find time to breathe. All Julia ever wanted was a quaint wedding on the beach with family and friends. But now Julia has to contend with not only her sister's plans, but those of her future mother-in-law, as well. Not wanting to step on anyone's toes, especially her mother-in-law's, Julia just goes along with it. She can only take so much, though, and when her newest employee, Kate, makes things harder at the bakery, Julia has to find a way to simplify her life. Can she do it or will she end up a basket case? Find out how she does it in this hilarious conclusion to the Spinster series!

A Bear's Bride: A Retelling of East of the Sun, West of the Moon (Entwined Tales #3) by Shari L. Tapscott

Don't judge a prince by his fur.

After her father threatens to marry her to a dull farmer, free-spirited Sophie runs away from the only home she’s ever known and sets off into the world, seeking adventure and romance. But instead of excitement, she finds a forlorn castle and the solitary prince who lives there.

For twenty years, Henri has been shrouded in mystery and speculation. He’s a legend, a nightmare, a blight upon his fair kingdom. Though Sophie knows it would be wiser to return home, she’s inexplicably drawn to the man of shadows.

But it doesn’t take Sophie long to realize that falling for the cursed prince might prove to be more of an adventure than she ever bargained for…

A Bear's Bride is a romantic fairy tale novella. It can be read on its own but is more fun when read as a part of the Entwined Tales, a series of interconnected fairy tales by six different authors. Each story follows the adventures of one of seven children from the same family as they seek out their own happily ever afters in spite of their reluctant fairy-godfather.

An Inconvenient Princess by Melanie Cellier (releases March 12th)

I love reading books by Shari Tapscott.  She's one of my favorites not only because she knows how to write great characters and fun adventure into her stories but because her books can be read and enjoyed by teenagers and adults alike.

This novella is is part of a collection of stories, each written by a different author.  I haven't read any of the other novellas but what a fun idea!  Each book is based on a character from the same family.

Fairy tale re-tellings are fun and this is a good one!  I read through it quickly and enjoyed it very much.

I really wish this was a full length novel.  I would have loved to have seen and felt more of the character's personalities and growing attraction over a longer period of time.  I felt like I had a pretty good handle on Sophie, but Henri?  I would have liked to have known him better.  Shari Tapscott has spoiled me with full length novels and I know how her stories go.  I just wanted more!  And that is a very good sign.  😊

The Forgotten Girl by Heather Chapman

It is 1906, and sixteen-year-old Stella's life in Durliosy, Poland, is bleak. Her only hope of surviving is to travel to America, a land of freedom and opportunity, and reunite with her brother in Baltimore. There she'll find new challenges, and perhaps, if she can put her painful past behind her, a new chance for love and lasting happiness.

 * Goodreads * Amazon *

I love when book are based on real characters like this one.  This character, Stella, is based on the authors ancestor.  How cool is that?  What a special tribute to those who have gone before and paved the way for a better world for those to come.

Stella's story isn't a happy one, really.  It's full of pain, heartache and sadness, especially for one so young.  Early immigrants had such a rough time of things.  They often traded in one gigantic struggle for another by coming to America.  That is quite evident in this book as Stella chases the dream of freedom and a better life by coming to a new country, only to find herself in poverty and oppression again.  This time with no English language skills.  I felt for the plight of Stella and the many others who struggled along side her.  I am humbled by their determination and strength.

This was a good story even though there wasn't very much happy to it.  There was always the smallest little seed of hope there, which I clung to along with Stella.  Thank goodness for people like her who dared to dream of a better life.  Those of us who live now owe a lot to them.

This book is just $.99 on Amazon as of today.  That's a steal of a deal!

Excerpt:

My brother shakes his head, and I see his shoulders rise. His eyes are dark, a faraway look in them. "You forget," he says, his voice growing deeper. "Poles are not welcome in America."

I wipe my cheek with my sleeve, praying Jozef did not see the tear roll down it. Not welcome? My chest feels like it is on fire, and it is as if only my rebuttal can quench it. "We are not welcome in our own country," I say, my eyes falling to the floor.

Jozef lets out a deep grunt, so deep that it rolls throughout the room, bouncing along the floorboards and between the others seated at the table. I lift my head to see his hand twist around the back of the chair as if meant to crush the wood between his fingers. "At least tell me you have not forgotten your Polish pride," he whispers, his voice cracking like a whip against a mule.

I shake my head, too angry and stubborn to say anything in reply. I do not forget. I cannot forget.

Celebrating Clean Romance with Nichole Van! $25 Giveaway, Free Book and $.99 Book!

An ancient curse, fractured at the birth of three brothers. Two strangers helplessly drawn to each other. A love story two hundred years in the making. Claire Raythorn arrives in Florence, Italy, shattered, alone, and anxious to rebuild her life—preferably one without men. But she soon finds herself hunted and haunted— literally—when a mysterious stalker dressed like Mr. Darcy from BBC central casting appears in her photos. And only her photos. Who is this man? And what does his ghostly presence mean? Dante D’Angelo simply wants to safeguard his brothers, despite the family curse that hounds his vision. But then Claire Raythorn walks into his life, untouched somehow by his curse. Soon, everything Dante thought he knew about himself starts to unravel, dragging Claire down with him. Set against the lush backdrop of Florence, Italy—both past and present—Claire and Dante fight for a future together. But, first, they must uncover their shared past . . .

The thing I like about Van's writing is that she builds up the love between hero and heroine in plausible increments. I think that's why I always end up reading her novels in one sitting until the early morning hours; I know that in the NEXT scene the characters are going to finally realize their love. But then you get to the next scene and you simply want more and more. And I mean that in the best possible way.

I’ve always thought Italian cities are like guys I knew in college: Rome—the hot frat boy I was dying to go out with (and I did, and it was awesome). But, turns out, everyone dated Rome. Naples—Rome’s frat house roommate. The guy on no sleep and his tenth can of Red Bull. No one messed with him cause he knew people who knew people . . . catch my drift . . . Venice—the dreamily gorgeous philosophy major. Brilliantly eccentric but exotic enough that no one quite knew what to make of him. Milan—the second-year MBA student who was big on power-ties and power-lunches. Basically, the organized guy who held everyone else together. And then there was Florence. Firenze, to those who knew him. Quiet and unassuming. When we first met, I wondered what all the fuss was about. But Firenze . . . he was a subtle seducer. If I asked, he could talk for hours about art and history. But, generally, Firenze simply listened. Peaceful. Steady. Ready to shoulder my sorrows. Firenze is the guy I never got out of my system.     I hit the ground floor and took two steps toward the large wooden front door. How would the next few weeks play out? Like being a contestant on Survivor? The Great Race? A male voice stopped me. “Just the person I was waiting for.” I closed my eyes. Nope. Things were shaping up to be The Bachelorette. Honestly. Pasting on my polite grin, which truthfully was more of a grimace by this point, I turned around. “Mr. D’Angelo.” “Dante, please.” He stepped out of the shadows at the base of the stairs. A window in the stairwell illuminated half of him. Even that half was huge. Whereas I looked down on Pierce and was eye-level with the Colonel, I had to look up, up at Dante. At five ten myself, it takes a lot to make me feel short. But he somehow managed it. He had to be at least six four and linebacker-wide. Did he play football in high school? His dark, wavy hair had been smoothly slicked back when he arrived earlier. But I had watched it creep forward as the morning went along until a section of it came loose, swinging down to kiss his jaw. My fingers itched to brush it back. Dante was the type of man I had always had a sweet tooth for. Until I learned, oh-so-painfully, how bad for my health they could be.

Branwell D’Angelo . . . Six years ago, I fell in love with Lucy—my brother’s girlfriend. Stupid of me, I know, but sometimes the heart doesn’t listen to reason. Six years, I’ve lived on the sidelines. Seeing him love her, be with her, bask in her sunshine . . . I watched her break his heart and then cleaned up the shattered pieces of him she left behind. She’s the one woman I can’t have but still the only one my soul wants. Now she’s back in our lives and needs the unique help only us D’Angelos can give. He’s not emotionally strong enough to face her. So he’s sending me instead . . . When tragedy strikes Lucy Snow on a visit to Italy, she can’t bring herself to call any of the D’Angelo brothers for help. There are consequences for falling in love with your ex-boyfriend’s brother. But Lucy desperately needs Branwell’s paranormal skills and his gift of Sight. And if seeing him will negate at least three years of therapy? Well, it’s a price she is willing to pay. Thrown together in a desperate bid to save an innocent life, Branwell and Lucy struggle against their shared past, only to realize that something even more dangerous is reaching through the weight of time to stalk their every move . . .

Oh. My. Gosh! The feels! The feels are real my fellow bookworms! My emotions were all over the place while reading this book! I laughed, I yelled, I got teary eyed, I growled in frustration, I let out little dreamy sighs and fell in love right along with Branwell and Lucy. I can't even begin to describe the amazingness of this book! One of my favorite parts of this book are the sour "punny" bears! *giggles* Oh! I can't forget about that epilogue! Love... love... LOVE! And talk about swoony! *dreamy sigh* I had the hardest time putting this book down! I have discovered a love/hate relationship with real life. Haha.

“Wait, wait. Don’t move,” a woman’s voice said. I froze, fork hovered over a particularly decadent piece of strawberry laden gooey-ness. I lifted my head and encountered the most amazing eyes. Blue-green and wide-set. The smell of lemon-verbena and sunshine drifted over me. That fiery red hair tumbled around the gentle curve of her jaw. Window-light sculpted the arch of her rosebud lips. Freckles. Freckles everywhere. Stars dotting her skin. She was . . . stunning. Magnificent. Breathtaking in an unconventional way. Maybe it was the jet lag, or the sugar and caffeine hitting my system in a knockout one-two punch. But . . . it jolted me hard. That bolt of lightning. This girl . . . woman . . . Something about her tugged at me. A siren call of wedding bells and growing old hand-in-hand. Then I noticed her t-shirt—The Empurr Strikes Back scrawled underneath Star Wars-themed, anime kittens. Yep. That sealed the deal. I was going to fall in love with her. So hard. So fast.     “So what’s your brand of crazy?” she asked. After a pause, I went with, “I won’t eat anything green unless it’s a vegetable.” She cocked her head, processing. A beat. “Green M&M’s? Skittles? Gummy bears?” she asked. “Nope. Leave ‘em all in the bag.” “Green frosting? Sprinkles? Mold?” “Nope. Nada. And please, no.” “So why no green?” she asked, genuine, sincere. I pondered options and then went with, “Non-vegetal green things are the charlatans of the food world.” “That’s about the best sentence I’ve heard all week.” She gave that giggly, wispy laugh of hers. “What about avocados? I mean, they act like a vegetable, but they’re really a fruit.” “Masquerading vegetables get a pass. So do herbs.” “What about kiwi?” “The jury is still out on kiwi. They’re something of a Franken-fruit, to be honest . . . all that fuzzy hair and the tiny, crunchy seeds.” She laughed again. “Please tell me you have no Irish heritage. You would destroy any St. Patty’s Day celebration.” “None.” I smiled, shaking my head. “Though, I did have an Irish roommate once. He thought I was, and I quote, ‘A wee bit mad.’”

Chiara doesn’t like Jack. Jack doesn’t like Chiara. The story should end there. Except . . . maybe Chiara finds herself daydreaming far too often about Jack. And maybe Jack finds Chiara aggravating in an adorable sorta way. Maybe Jack and Chiara find themselves falling in love. The problem, of course, remains. Jack is a ghost. And Chiara is not. Jack Knight-Snow has had a bad year for losing things. So far he has lost a ship full of ancient treasure, his family, his friends, his title, his lands and money, his fiancé, the century into which he was born . . . oh, and his physical body. Worse, feisty Chiara D’Angelo might just finish the job and make him lose his mind. For her part, Chiara simply wants to help Jack get his body back and move on with his life. She doesn’t want to like his snarky humor or his gorgeous eyes or the way he accepts her exactly as she is. She’s a hot mess when it comes to romantic relationships. Case in point . . . she’s developing feelings for a ghost. But tackling the problem of Jack’s ghostliness is not straightforward. Soon, Jack and Chiara find themselves embroiled in a mystery which creates more questions about the D’Angelo brothers’ gifts of Second Sight. Set against the backdrop of Tuscany, Italy, Jack and Chiara race to uncover answers about the past before becoming history themselves.

Nichole Van has hit paydirt yet again with this latest Brothers Maledetti book! Chiara's story has swoonworthy romance that is 100% clean, as well as laugh out loud humor and superb storytelling to make up this amazing, unputdownable book! Although you don't have to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this one, I'd highly recommend reading them to get further backstory on the D'Angelo family and their talents. Nichole Van is one of the few authors on my "instant-buy" list and this latest installment is another reminder why. Five stars just don't seem enough.

“Jack, we’re all concerned about you,” I said the words carefully, keeping my tone flat and not screechy like I felt. “We’ve been concentrating on trying to find answers for your ghost-like state, but I think the constant focus is hurting more than it’s helping. It’s like picking at a scab over and over, never allowing it to heal. Maybe it’s time to take a step back from our research.” Jack paused, giving me his best Regency-era, Lord Knight stare. I had a love/hate relationship with that stare—I hated that I kinda loved it. It was snooty with an edge of dry sardonic humor, and it challenged every womanly impulse in my body to kiss it off his face. Not that I would do that, of course, even if it were possible. But the urge was there. “Would you prefer me to continue my exploration of modern names?” he asked. I bit my lip, unsure how to reply. It was a decent threat. Jack had gone through this whole phase where he mocked contemporary celebrity names. Example: Brittany Spears. It had been days of, ‘Pardon Siri, but who are the Spears of Brittany?’ and ‘Are Brittany Spears similar to Celtic weaponry from northern France?’ “I have yet to understand why Ryan cares so much about goslings,” Jack continued. “Does he have a fetish for young poultry?” See?! Honestly.
